My DDIL wanted this done , she is a scientist ,and did it for both of the children. It was a lot of money high hundreds if I remember rightly but it can save lives in the future .

Costs are around £1800 to store stem cells for 25 years. Baby teeth is about £8 a month.

I wonder what the costs are and just how reputable the companies are.

It could be a good way to set up as a scam and get in a lot of money without investing in proper facilities.

I think it's a brilliant idea so long as it's ethically sound, but I'd have to be certain who controlled access to stored cells.

This young woman had a termination two years ago because the foetus was identified as having Hunters Syndrome. So she is understandably jumpy about things around babies, children and health and well being. This pregnancy is fine now, she is being super well looked after by the N H S. smile

That's interesting, kitty so baby teeth are stored rather than umbilical cord or placenta - gives the "tooth fairy" a whole new meaning. Amazing. Will have a look on the website.

I 've just asked him and he says it's the mesenchymal cells that are the ones to be harvested and stored! confused

My brother is involved with a company that offers stem cell storage and baby teeth are the way to go now! The company is called Bioeden and there is lots of info on the website.

I'm not sure what control anyone has over those cells eg can some be used for experiments etc [I think that's something that concerned my daughter when she was thinking about it].

It crossed my mind when DIL was pregnant but did not know how to approach the subject so let it go.

A young friend, pregnant with her first baby, is asking my opinion on storing stem cells from the placenta in the case of health needs in the future.

I don't know a thing about it, but will read up, and I thought I'd post on here too to see whether anyone else have experience or knowledge of it.

My friend has no parents, so I am a sort of surrogate mum to her.
