I am very wary of putting anything new on my skin. In the past I had a few allergies, which I knew of, but that was that. But since I hit my 50s and 60s it has very gradually got worse and worse (like you *Newist I am now in my early 70s)

The latest problem is with a medical mouth wash. I am having a dental implant. I had the first part of the procedure and the dentist gave me this mouthwash to use three times a day until the stitches came out.
It started slowly but 24 hours later the right side of my face was ballooning and I had a huge bruise stretching down my face. A google search said this product was very safe and reactions were very rare. I suppose that makes me a rarity.

The real problem was that the one sided swelling of my face and the huge bruise made me look like a victim of domestic violence, and I think one friend thought this might be so, because she questioned me in detail about the procedure I had had until I opened my mouth and showed her the stitches in my gum. Strangely the operation site was unaffected by the allergy.

I once bought a moisturiser from Sainsbury's which brought my face out in red blotches. Since then I have been very careful to use unperfumed and hypolargenic products.

I bought some shampoo from the Co-op once which contained tea tree oil. The skin on my scalp, face, neck and shoulders felt like it was on fired and was also red, dry and itchy. I had never used tea tree oil before, and I never will again! I didn't think I was allergic to anything either, I found out otherwise!
Are you okay now newist?

I normally buy Savlon for minor irritations, but when I was in Glasgow I bought Boots antiseptic cream, probably cos it was on offer, thinking it would be the same. Last night I had a slight irritation at the top of my leg, my knickers must of rubbed, so I slapped some of the new cream on. I must of dozed off to waken up because I was scratching my sensitive bits furiously, then I noticed both my legs were covered in pimple things like goose bumps only bigger, next the palms of my hands were so itchy they felt like they were on fire, I got up not wanting to disturb DH, sat in the kitchen, then stood up, I felt strange, so I went and told DH what was happening, we then both went back into the kitchen, sat for a while, we stood up to go back to bed I was all over the place, could not stand up on my own, he helped my back to bed and I slept for a while, this morning I have showered and no signs of any of the symptoms, no itch or anything.
I am 71 and never in my life have I showed any signs of an allergy, why would it happen now, with a cream I thought was safe. I wonder if this has happened to anyone else
