My two week old granddaughter started fitting at four days old. It was very traumatic, even though we knew this was a possibility as BNFC is hereditary on her father's side. The fits are being controlled by phenobarbitones but I wondered if anyone out there knows about the drug. My online research has given me some concerns. It would also be good to know if there are others out there with the same condition.

Forgottenitallgrannie No suggestions I can make but I understand how upsetting it could be. I expect others who might know about this will be around in the morning.
Call back in then.

Phenobarbitone is a very old fashioned drug. Maybe it has a specific value in such young babies that more modern anticonvulsants don't have? Sorry to hear about the wee thing though. What a worry for you all.

Providing she is being treated by a paediatrician I would trust the treatment. If, though, these have been prescribed by a GP I would ask for an immediate referral to a specialist.

You have my sympathy. This must be worrying, but her father is now presumably well?

I totally agree with what Anya has said. The little mite must be being treated by a paediatrician re drugs.
