breathing difficulties

This sounds so, so similar to the difficulties I was experiencing earlier this year. I had several weeks of laryngospasms which were pretty scary, but I can reassure you that they are completely self limiting and don't tend to last more than 60 seconds or so. One thing that might help is slow breathing in during an attack. Rapid breathing will tighten the vocal chords and make things worse. Sniffing in hard sometimes helps as well as it encourages the vocal chords to open.

Have you ever been investigated for GERD? It's often acid reflux which can be responsible for this as well.

It will pass Boheminan, I know how frightening it is but it will pass. Hang in there. x

I've just googled it, it's apparently very rare....
Could it be Bronchospasm (adult version of Croup I think)? I remember treating children with steam or humidified air in a plastic tent umpteen years ago.
Might be worth asking your GP, it does seem to be taking its time to resolve Boh, so very tiring and frustrating for you.

thanks loopylou A friend recently suggested to me that maybe it's what the spasms I've been getting at night are about (I suspected whooping cough). It would be good if someone here knows what I'm talking about! they're very frightening and not very common (I wish we could edit on GN, I think I should have put Laryngospasm as a heading :-(

No, I don't Bo, it sounds very scary.
Hopefully someone will be along who does, and I hope you're having a better day today x

Does anyone here have experience or knowledge of Laryngospasm?
