I've done something to my left shoulder/neck-I can rotate my head but it's very painful to move it forwards and backwards or use left arm for anything heavier than my iPad mini. (Oh dear, what a pity) I'm now smelling like a rugby club changing room as DH has covered me in Polar Frost. Have physio on Thursday - may try to bring it forward. More tea and pain killers methinks.

Oh dear, Katek, I do hope physio sorts it and it's not a frozen shoulder. In my experience nothing works for them and mine keep taking it in turns to play up! grin

I empathise, I'm having physio on a painful shoulder. The exercises seem to aggravate it sad

I am having exercises for my hip which very definitely aggravate it - but I am persevering.

Katek - try a heat pad on it.

I find physio for anything makes me much worse! I have totally wrecked spine with prolapsed discs and herniated discs from top to bottom and recently had physio for bursitis in the shoulder and it totally crippled my neck! My Gp told me to see physio rather than my usual chiropractor who knows me and is very gentle and does help me as much as anyone can.

6 weeks of physio and I was much worse than when I started so went back to my usual chiropractor and 2 treatments which were totally different and my shoulder is much better.

The lack of neck movement is due to muscle spasm ( sadly a bit of an expert on this!). Try heat pads and you should get movement back within 5 days as the muscles relax plus the delightfully smelling rub you are using.

So sorry to hear of your pain, katek, hope you will feel better soon.
I am in the same position, going to the physio for a torn supraspinatus (in shoulder). Most of the time she is very gentle but yesterday she really hurt me and has set me back in my range of movement, which was very limited. Nor did it help that a canvas stool ripped and threw me onto the floor, landing on my shoulder. I was doing my physio home exercises at the time!
I have had frozen shoulders in the past which have taken a couple of years to mend, but this injury is hopefully 3 months.
I would be interested in others' opinions of the following. Physio thinks I should take painkillers all the time so that I can push myself further on the stretches. When at rest I am no longer in pain, thank goodness. Is it wise to take so many painkillers? I feel reluctant.

Pain is natures way of telling you to stop! It has a function. Anti inflammatories and keep moving is what I was always told. Not sure about overextension while taking painkillers. Am very sorry to hear you're all having such trouble. Hope things are better soon

My GP told me to take painkillers before the physiotherapy but the therapist said not to.
She treated my shoulder with ultra sound and it worked well, the pain lessened and I could move my arm more.

Gentle {{{HUGS}}} to those suffering with sore bits flowers too.

Nana3 how does ultrasound help with pain? I've only had it for investigations. Sounds interesting.

Don't know the science it was a surprise to me, but I was told it reduces swelling. Apparently it's common for sports injuries too. The physio used the ultra sound machine on my shoulder but there was no monitor, it worked though.

Turns out I had damaged the superior trapezius muscle probably through picking up smallest (!) dgs who now weighs over 20lbs. Ultrasound plus deep massage pretty much fixed it in one session. I'm at physio every fortnight for other issues so she's been able to keep an eye on it. I've always had ultrasound treatment and sometimes interferential treatment which I believe stimulates the nerve function in damaged areas.
