I read somewhere to take one paracetamol, one ibuprofen with a coffee for caffeine. It has worked for me.

Gracesgran Tue 05-Jul-16 06:01:00

You may well be dehydrated -rehydration is the key and water the easiest answer.

If the usual remedies aren't working it's a trip to see the GP, all the best.

Are you a new member?

You first need to find out what type of headache you have and its cause. If headache's are a problem, in other words very frequent when they were not before then as Nana3 says, the solution is to see your GP.

A trip to the opticians to check out your eyes.

Mumsy Tue 05-Jul-16 08:55:22

perhaps you have hay fever? or possibly stress? Iack of sleep? I find using a cold flannel on the forehead helps, if its a persistant headache, like others have said a trip to the gp or opticians to get it checked out...

Gracesgran's right. Start with a glass of water. Dehydration is a major cause of headaches.

DH suffers constantly with ordinary headaches and severe migraine. He tries to eradicate things which cause them and is finding sadly that he is barely able to tolerate alcohol at all but all the usual triggers apply to him - chees, organs, tiredness, stress. As other here have said make sure you are hydrated, eating well and not to excess, getting enough rest. Yoga is supposed to be very beneficial and there are many reports of other alternative therapies being helpful. Its a good idea to get your specs/eyes checked too.

Organs? Teetime

Teetime Tue 05-Jul-16 10:55:53

Ah - oranges!!!

Pittcity Tue 05-Jul-16 12:04:56

Although I can see how organs (of all sorts) could give you a headache ?

Luckygirl Tue 05-Jul-16 12:14:39

If you have a headache that is not going away you should see GP. Please also bear in mind that continually taking painkillers can actually give you headache.

Love it, organs are the cause of so many headaches.
Luckgirl is right about too many painkillers, also as well as all the other things mentioned especially hydration, check you are not grinding your teeth as this can cause headaches.
Seems the list is endless.

Taking another look at migraine it is clear that someone who has migraines is stressed because of the migraines. Living with migraine is the greatest stress of all.
These people if they could get rid of migraine headaches would not be stressed. This thing about stress is to put the blame on the sufferer her/himself.

If you can find your triggers -wine, yeast, sugar or whatever then try to cut them out completely. Just cutting down wont do as its like a stone in your shoe. Half a stone still hurts.
Aspirin is best and 1000mg. Migraine is an inflamation of the brain surface and aspirin gets rid of the inflammation.
This inflammation makes the neck muscles stiff they are the result not the cause.
I can't take Aspirin and take Migreleve Pink tablets followed by Codein if necessary.

Cluster headaches can be a problem; perhaps your GP can help.

Sometimes taking medication long-term can cause a headache worse than the initial one you were trying to get rid of.
