E45 Lotion

Aqueous cream is definitely a moisturiser as well as a soap substitute. We use it a lot in my treatment room.

I reckon I'm going to find it somewhere where I least expect to see it!It does sound as if they're phasing it out though so I may have to buy a lifetimes supply.

I noticed my local Home Bargains had large bottles of E45 Lotion on display, although online it's out of stock. You may be lucky in your area.

I thought Vit E was better for scars [the preventing of, that is]? I do use olive oil on my face sometimes. Knowing me, if I used olive oil I'd drop it all over the bedroom floor. Pleased to hear that you're doing so well, knee wise. Hopefully you'll get to the next meet up !

ann, the best thing I found for post-op scars was Bio Oil. It is easily absorbed and not a bit greasy. I was once rubbing it into a scar on my wrist when my 3-year-old GD asked what I was doing. I explained but she frowned and said, 'Oil is for cooking'.
Another moisturiser highly recommended for the bruising on dry, easily scarred skin caused by use of steroids is Double Base Gel. My arms were covered in red capillary bruises but are now clear. I use it on my legs and feet as well. It isn't greasy or sticky.

My local pharmacy sell it, I made the mistake of buying the cream for my knee scar and it's horrible tacky stuff to rub in. When I saw the physio last week, he asked what I was using and recommended olive oil instead.

I, too am a convert to E45 Lotion. I've never liked the cream even though I've had a house full of it over the years [the S.O. was a Boots rep!]but ended up with some of the lotion a while back, tried it out and love it. Now it's gone I'm struggling to replace it, although they do say it's stocked in my local chemist. I did see some on a shelf at Tescos recently and, annoyingly didn't buy it. Went there yesterday and it had gone, never to return. As I've mentioned before I'm making a point of moisturising my legs these days, having seen the problems people have in that area in later life [and we tend not to think about moisturising our legs unless we're on holiday and using sun cream]. I'm using Vit E for various other problems as well and assume E45 contains it. Oh; just saw Willows post; the S.O. is going to Morrisons this week..hopefully he'll find some there.

Aqueous cream is an substitute for soap. It contains sodium laurel sulphate. I've never known anyone use it as a moisturiser. We used it to wash residents with dry skin, in the nursing home I worked in before I retired. here's an article explaining the latest thinking.

We buy Aveeno products for my husband who suffers with eczema. I don't know if it is more expensive that E45 but if you shop around it is usually on 'special' somewhere. My husband says it is much, much better than aquaous cream which admitedly is cheap but contains a nasty chemical (I can't remember what it is (D??)) which has been proved to make eczema worse but which is still being prescribed for eczema - at least here in Ireland. Aveeno contains oatmeal.

Large jar of Astral, 500 about £6. I have the driest skin possible but with Astral it's okay. Easier to apply th a aqueous cream.

Another product invented by the Boots Chemist company in the days before it was swallowed up by another multi national. Ibuprofen was also invented in their laboratories.

The only difference between E45 and Aqueous cream BP is that E45 has lanolin in it. E45 350 grm is £7 in Boots.
I just use Aqueous cream BP. It is fine and probably less allergenic without the added lanolin.

Easy enough to obtain here. I also saw a new(?) "spray" version in 2 strengths and had a test while waiting for DH's prescriptions yesterday. Felt much lighter and of course easier to dispense than the other pump type bottle or tub of cream.
