Just a quick question really concerning my yearly Flu injection which I had this last Monday along with my Pneumonia injection (first time ever both being given together) ever since I have felt so so poorly every joint aching and awful night and day sweats even suffered from sickness from even drinking a cup of tea, receptionist at health centre has told me to see Dr on Monday if no improvement but I'm wondering if I shall go into walk in centre before then, has anyone else has such a bad reaction I wonder.

I've had the flu jab for a few years now and felt fine, except the year when 'they' supposedly got it wrong. I got a really bad dose that time and I hadn't had flu for over 35 years. So, although it's said that you can't have a reaction....hmmm! That said, I'll have it this year again, just in case.smile

I have had no reaction whatsoever - maybe it has not worked!

Still dithering .....

Son had to visit the doctor about something else today, totally unrelated.
The doctor aslo investigated his asthma attack, and didnt raise an eyebrow when son said that he got it after the flu jab on friday.

And I can cheerfully report[not] that what son got, is catchable hmm

Sundancer, I am also 70 and had my flu jab yesterday. The nurse said that I could have the shingles jab this year but to leave it until 4 weeks after the flu jab.

I am normally ok after the flu jab but now have a sore throat and feel quite poorly. I will take it easy and will probably be ok soon.

moonlight I had a bad localised reaction to the pneumonia jab with a swollen, very red and hot arm. I had the shingles jab in the other arm at the same time and that was the same. I was prescribed anti-histamines which helped but both arms were very sore for a couple of days with a hard lump at the site of the jabs.

I was told that I must be very sensitive to the medium the vaccine comes in and not to have any more jabs including the flu jab.

I do have a sensitive skin and have asthma and eczema so maybe that was why.confused

Had the flu jab yesterday and feel ok. The pharmacist said I could feel unwell for a day or two.

She also said that as I was on steroids I wouldn't be as protected against flu as I was before taking the drugs, but if I got it that it would not be as severe.

I will definitely take the advice of washing my hands regularly when coming back from shopping.

i refused the flu jab as have had three times over the past few years and each time had bad side effects last year i did get the flu but it wasnt as bad as the side effects to the jasb

I had mine on Saturday. Completely fine apart from a stiff shoulder for a couple of days.

obieone Mon 03-Oct-16 17:55:31

Son now has an asthma attack. Under control hopefully.
Prior to flu jab, all was fine.
This is the first time in about the 17 years he has been having them, that he has reacted.

My mum had the flu jab a few years ago and she was quite ill with it with flu type symptoms, but eventually she was fine.

NannaJay Mon 03-Oct-16 16:13:27

I had my flu jab last week, Thursday 29th and apart from a sore arm, I have been fine. I have the jab every year due to multiple health issues and have never had any problems with it

Sundancer123 Mon 03-Oct-16 15:55:00

I have had a flu jab for the last few years and have never had any reaction.
Asked about a shingles jab as I'm now 70 ( going to get old disgracefully) and was told that this year, the Government has told surgeries that they will give the jab to those in the 78 year old age group.
I might have the age group wrong by a year or so, but I won't get it. I had no idea ages were selected as to who will get it each year. Sounds like a lottery to me.

I have to have Flu jab as I have Type 2 Diabetes & am Epileptic. Have been having one for about 5/6 years. Didn't have one when Swine Flu was about although Surgery rang me, when I asked why I had come up on list it was because of Epilepsy!hmm

Had Pneumonia jab 2nd year with Flu jab, no adverse reaction but last year I had a severe bout of Pneumonia & was in Hospital for over 5 weeks - so much for life-long protection.angry

Had this year's Flu jab 3 weeks ago, usual sore arm for a day or so & tender if I suddenly caught it for a bit longer. Would always have Flu jab, better than Flu which I've had twice & been really ill.

I've had the flu jab for several years together with my son, Philip (25), who has Down's Syndrome so has it as he's considered vulnerable person.

In past years, we've been fine other than the 'punched in the arm' feeling which came a day or two after the innoculation. However, this year, I have felt muscular aches in my arms and legs and a heavy cold-like lethagy. Phil seems to have suffered more than me and has not felt well enough to go to his life-skills day course and social events such as 10-pin bowling. I presume that this is because this year's innoculation is tailored to a different range of the flu strains.

Most people will exaggerate and say that they've had the flu when they've really just had a heavy cold. I once had had the flu which left me bedridden and then housebound for a few weeks. I would happily suffer the current discomfort rather than have a bout of flu which would be far more dangerous to either Philip and myself.

Just to add. I had finished a course of radiotherapy 4 months previously. I think it is more likely to have an effect if your immune system is a little depleted or you are just a little run down. Hope it helps.

mernice Mon 03-Oct-16 13:49:37

When I had both together I had an extremely bad reaction. Felt so weak and ill. Glands in neck were swollen. Dr said it was a virus.......they don't like to think people get reactions. I was told by a nurse that having the two together affects some people. Been fine since with just flu vaccine

Lupatria Mon 03-Oct-16 11:49:10

had mine last week - slightly sore arm for a couple of days.
i had my pneumonia jab a few years ago at the same time as my flu jab - one jab in each arm. again only slightly sore arms fir a couple of days.
as an asthmatic i've been having flu jabs for about 15 years - quite a while before i was 60 anyway.

rosesarered Mon 03-Oct-16 11:20:16

Mr Roses, as usual, has no side effects at all.envy

rosesarered Mon 03-Oct-16 11:19:00

Yes, think the pneumonia jab is a one off thing.
Feeling grotty today still, arm a bit sore but nothing much, more a headache with sniffles, cough and sore throat.paracetamol and a mug of tea with honey helps.Hopefully will wear off soon.

Libmoggy Mon 03-Oct-16 11:13:34

My mother had a very severe reaction. I've always refused one. I actually had flu two years ago. It took quite a long time to recover. Let's hope I now have immunity to at least one strain

meandashy Mon 03-Oct-16 10:50:44

I had both jags together 2 yrs ago without any bad side effects. I was under the impression you only got the pneumonia jag once? Unless you have an underlying issue like copd? Sorry you're feeling poorly ?

Kim19 Mon 03-Oct-16 10:40:03

I am now having the flu jab annually albeit with reservations. However........ I certainly wouldn't have any combinations at the one time. I like to 'invade' my body gently so, one thing at a time sounds good to me and this is irrespective of whether the treatments are 'doing a different job' or not. Multiple jabs may well be a time saver for clinics?

NemosMum Mon 03-Oct-16 10:30:21

Could be coincidence that you've got another virus, but even if it is a reaction, much better than getting the full-blown thing! Meanwhile - sympathy coming your way - take it easy!

patd Mon 03-Oct-16 10:18:51

After seeing my mum and dad have really bad reaction to their flu jabs i have never had one, they were so bad i had to look after them for nearly two weeks.
