Aw what a shame Luckygirl. What a horrible feeling of uncertainty for you. I do hope 'they' get to the bottom of the problem and that a good way out of it is found.flowers

Sorry to hear you are having problems and pain Lucky and I hope everything is resolved satisfactorily for you very soon. The waiting is always the worst! flowers

DH had to have a revision of a hip replacement within two years and it was so successful that he has not looked back since. He has AF too. Try not to worry as it will not help. roastchicken ((hugs))

Thanks for the messages. Watching and waiting is not my favourite thing! I just try not to think too much about it.

Luckygirl I certainly remember the trauma of the 1st THR- I did not realise that it was 2 years ago.

It is too easy for me to tell you not to worry and wait until you have the next nuclear scan and then a diagnosis maybe clearer but I am well aware of how you must be feeling. I would not give infection a thought if at all possible just yet.

If there is a fracture, I suppose that if it is hairline that zilch can be done about it. I feel so sorry that you are having to watch and wait.

Not me, Lucky, but that is a real bugger - to put it mildly. flowers

Some of you will remember that I had my R hip replaced 2 years ago, and had lots of problems afterwards. I have continued to have lots of pain, both in and around the hip joint and part way down my femur, where I get sudden bouts of intense pain that stop me walking.

Eventually I had a nuclear bone scan several months ago which showed an area of abnormal activity in and around the tip of the prosthesis half way down the femur. No-one seems to know what it is. Suggestions are that there may be a minute fracture there; that the prosthesis is micro-moving inside the femur (it is uncemented); or that it is infected - don't even go there! There are no blood markers for infection, but I have to have a second nuclear bone scan to see if the abnormal area has spread, in which case it is likely to be caused by infection.

I am worried sick that it might be infection, as this entails revision surgery which involves 2 further operations. I just cannot face that idea after all the problems that arose for me last time (problems with heart rhythm - fast AF - that resulted in me having to go to the coronary care unit; and a sudden serious depression for which I am still taking medication).

If it is not infection there is nothing to be done and I just have to tolerate the pain - the only thing I will have gained from the original surgery is that my hip no longer locked into place. I am in just as much pain and sometimes even more.

Has anyone else experience of this situation?
