My DH was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year. He's since lost 3 stone and is now within normal blood sugar range so clear of diabetes. His blood pressure has also dropped dramatically. It was hard work, needing lots of will power and I found it quite challenging to prepare meals. Bread was the thing that he most missed. This website was a bit help: www.dietdoctor.com There's also a "low carb" thread on GN somewhere
Yes I wasn't happy but had a feeling it was coming as I've not been walking so much and I know snacking way too much. Hopefully once my hip is done I'll get my blood sugar down again although I've been really good cutting down my portion sizes and snacking has gone out the window but its only week one of course.
Not a good diagnosis but 10 times better than type 1 and having to start on insulin. At least type 2 can be diet controlled unless you are very unlucky.
Was told last week I'd love to compare notes with someone else whose newly diagnosed as to measures you are taking or been advised to take. I'm having my first meet with our diabetic nurse tomorrow I'm sure she'll read me the riot act. I am reading up all about it but found conflicting advice and so much of it too.
