I remember our doctor visiting for the most minor things. I think he was more interested in talking to my mother about painting than he was in treating me grin

Actually he had the sense to see that I really couldn't cope with more than a few weeks of school and would then develop a rash or a temerature and he would recommend a week at home.

daddima that's lovely (the mirror and the caring).

For me, it meant the one time when I was allowed to be put in my grandparents bed (during the day when sick) because mostly their bedroom seemed as if their room was out of bounds (although this was never made explicit). I must also explain that we lived with my grandparents (my mother and 3 children after my "father" left).

Another very strong memory is that the bed was high, and I was very sick with measles or similar, and woke up from a sleep to find our family doctor sitting quietly in a chair reading. Those were the days - I still remember his name, Dr Morton.

To me, this always means lying in mum & dad's bed, and being fed Heinz tomato soup and Ambrosia Creamed Rice.
My father also took the full length mirror from the dressing table in the bedroom, and propped it between the living room and bedroom ( we lived in a room and kitchen) so as the invalid could watch the telly ( albeit backwards!)
