Have just had a call telling me that my recent blood pressure tests have identified a too low pulse rate. Have to go for an ECG. Anyone else had this and any advice?

athletes have very low pulse rates, when my OH was running marathons his was around 50-55 ,now its still in the high 50's low 60's mine on the other hand is anything from 68 to 90 or more .Did they say how low yours is ,I always assumed low was good

A friend of mine in her 50s has a pulse rate of 56. She has often been told by medical staff that she has the pulse of an athlete, even though the most athletic thing she does is walk to the car grin. The doctor doesn't seem concerned. He just says it is normal for her.

Do get it checked out, a good friend of mine had a couple of 'episodes' i.e. feeling a bit vague and faint, her pulse was low....on further investigation she needed a pacemaker. Not saying its what you need but, having had it fitted she now realises she must have been slowly getting quite unwell without fully realising it. Now she feels fighting fit!

I was once told I had low BP and when i asked gp what that meant he said 'one of two things, either you are very fit or you are dead!!!' This was over 40 years ago mind you and not in the days of pc!!!

Some medications can cause this in particular blood pressure tablets, mine has been under 60 for years since being on BP tablets. Always best to get it checked out though and it sounds like they are being thorough, which is good. Hope ECG goes well.

Its in the 50's. I was on BP medication until recently but Dr took me off as BP was now going too low. Now apparently pulse is as well. I'm reasonably fit but most certainly not super-so! Have appointment for ECG next month

Might take a while for your pulse to get back to normal after coming of the BP tablets, or this might be the new normal for you.

It's called bradycardia or brachycardia. It might be normal for you, athletes have heartbeats of 50-60 beats a minute but it might mean that not enough oxygen is getting around your body causing tiredness, dizziness or fainting. It's good they're checking it out, there are various possible causes, eg heart rhythm, thyroid but they will be able to identify those and treat if necessary. Don't worry.

I have been Bettie g bouts of lethargy recently but not dizziness or fainting. Anyway will just have to see what they say. Thanks for the comments from all of you
