I'm going to have a read of that. I know when I worked in a care home that music was very therapeutic. The residents loved singing and it unlocked so many memories for some.

I am rehearsing St Matthew Passion at the moment. Extraordinary music!

Good point, Luckygirl. Maybe it depends what is a person's normal base of being alert.
Like Greyduster Bach is the one who can move me into another world. What about , Wake up you sleepers!

Many years ago I watched a tv programme about the actor Terry Thomas. He had advanced Parkinson's and could barely walk but found that he could tap dance across the room.

I find the music of J.S. Bach life enhancing. I read this once "Bach knew how to build bridges. He is always showing us, in a flash of transparent clarity, how to reconcile the pain in our days with the burst of light". I would put a link to the piece that lifts me beyond measure, but I don't know how!

Music and musical taste is fascinating; you choice of music for spirits-lifting Trica just feels like an irritant!! - sorry!

I winder what dictates the music that we love or hate. An interesting area for speculation!

ps look up music to help stammerers. The link was too long to copy and paste.

If music has this effect on a cat, it is not surprising that human beings also find it mood-altering.

Music affects my mood. The tune I play to lift my spirits - never fails:

I am in no doubt of the therapeutic effects of music, which is partly why I have run a community choir for the last 25+ years and have been involved in encouraging community music in general.

I also have experience of this when working with people with brain injury and dementia patients - the effects of music are immediate and very obvious. There were some patients to whom I would sing a conversation and they would sing back - ordinary speech was beyond them. Fascinating!

Music as therapy perhaps.

After a very sad event in our lives I compiled an album of sad songs and played it when my mood plummeted. Oddly enough, even though it reduced me to tears, I felt better afterwards.

The link didn't blue for some reason.

This is an article on a fascinating study of the use of music instead of medicine or as an aid to help with all sorts of conditions:
