Seeking Insurance Company

Hi, can anyone recommend an Insurance Company? My husband had a heart attack in 2008 and has had no problem obtaining insurance to enable him to fly. However, on a routine check last year, he has now been found to have an Aneurysm. His applications are being declined.

Have his doctors OK'd flying ? Is he due to have further surgery to repair it? Depending on the size, position etc I might be too nervous to fly any distance.

Hi MawBroon, the Doctor has informed us that he can see no reason why hubby cannot fly. There is no surgery at the moment, the size of the Aneurysm being 3.2. We would love to visit Greece again so looking at a 4 hr. approx. flight.

Avant and Staysure are worth investigating. Check for coupons/vouchers before ringing etc.

My husband had a triple coronary bypass in 2007, an aortic dissection in 2008 and since then three aneurysms, the largest of which is 5.7. He is monitored at a London hospital every nine months and has been told there is no reason why he shouldn't fly and holiday abroad. We used to use Staysure but they became expensive so now use Global, a company that works in a different way from most insurance companies. There is no medical screening so you don't have to declare pre existing conditions but all conditions that have arisen in the last year are excluded and the excess is £1000. I had a telephone chat with them before booking online and the annual premium was £158 last year. We've used them for the last two years for trips to Europe although we never go anywhere remote and I always make sure I know emergency numbers and location of hospitals.

Thanks Suki70, I have made a note of that

You're welcome Jalima. Meant to say too that I always carry a translated list and explanation of DH's medical problems, just in case. Have often had to use this at security at airports in France and Italy as he has staples in his chest and metal knee replacements, so always sets off the alarms. Note that it's me that takes all these precautions, DH is unconcerned and looks and acts as if he is as fit as a fiddle so no one would know he has these problems!

Thank you Suki70. Your comments were most informative. Will certainly be looking into Global. x

You could try Age UK, they seem to cover a lot of people who won't be insured by more commercial insurers
