I do have a perching stool and use it for conducting - it is not practical for performing because of the sort of "scaffolding" that choirs have to stand on. So I will glug some pain killers tomorrow - but there is a balance to be struck between pain relief and complete doziness! Bach requires one to be alert!!

I suppose what really frustrates me is that I had the surgery mainly because of the problems when conducting and singing - back to square one it would seem!!

Sorry to hear that Lucky but I think you are making a wise decision. flowers

Could you at least lean on one of those perching bar type stools for singing? Or take prophylactic pain killers!! Not much help but all I can think of.

I'm sorry about your pain. Can't you sit down at least for the rehearsal and why can't you sit down to conduct?

Saw consultant yesterday and he had the scan results. There is no infection, but the diagnosis (as I had suspected) is "micro movement" of the prosthesis in the femur. It was clearly a mechanical problem, as the acute pain happens when I have been standing for a while and then take my weight off it - it is excruciating and I cannot put my weight on that leg for about a minute afterwards.

So....I have two choices: live with it or have it renewed (with no guarantee that it - or some other problem - will not recur).

So, since the surgery made me very ill before, I will just get on with living with it. It is a big problem for me when I am singing or conducting as I have to stand for longish periods - I am singing the St Matthew Passion on Saturday and that lasts 3 hours!!! + 2 hours of afternoon rehearsal. Wish me luck!

I told the consultant that it is never a good idea to operate on doctors' wives as something always goes wrong!
