Ramipril cough

DH is on it and coughs all the time. Its very irritating to listen to especially as he doesn't know he's doing it. I asked him about it after reading your post and he says that he seems to have more catarrh. I'll be interested to see if others have the same problem.

I was taking a similar thing (can't remember the name) and had the cough for months.
Until the doctor changed it to a different tablet - immediately ok.
The one I take now is called Kenzen.

Another one here too - told the GP and he agreed it caused a cough - asked how bad was mine and I said I could not go anywhere without Stepsils in my bag so he took me off it and gave me another medication. I am now on a different cocktail so cannot tell you what the replacement was.

Me too.... can't remember what it was but apparently it's quite a common side effect of ACE inhibitors, which doesn't mean one has to put up with it. Your doctor will be able to prescribe another one. It's so annoying that long term medication for quite common ailments have side effects... ie although my cough's been sorted with a different tablet I now have swollen ankles

Amlodopine is dreadful for causing swollen ankles - the pharmacist told me that if you still have them after a month or so then the drug is not for you and should be. changed. I have needed to have a couple changed and it is difficult to find ones that work enough and don't give side effects. One I take now makes me feel very tired early afternoon - the Dr told me about this and I also have a beta blocker and the cardiologist asked me if I was sporadically taking sudden deep breaths - which I do - that is a side effect!

DH developed a cough our Dr changed his tablets and now he's fine.

"deep breaths" - I do that as well, it feels as if I've stopped breathing then start to gasp. I take Atenolol.

I take Atenolol as well as Ramipril and no side effects but when on Amlodipine my ankles ballooned and never did return to normal.

I was prescribed Ramipril and everything was fine for a good few years until I developed a cough, GP changed them for 5mg Amlodipine and I seem to be fine on these, my sister also used to take these and she too was ok until the GP prescribed 10mg, then her ankles puffed up quite badly, and she developed a rash on her lower legs so she was taken off them and now has something else.

Are you all aware that diabetes can be a side effect of Ramipril?

Never knew about that side effect Charliegirl. Any of the drugs ending with the - olol- are beta blockers.

Oh blimey, the cure is worse than the cause. I was healthy until I had a heart attack, then pneumonia, now I'm achey, slow, fat(ter), my ankles are permanently swollen, older and a miserable old whatsit. Chin up, tomorrow will be better.

DH is on candesarten for hypertension and he's constantly clearing his throat now. He says it feels as if he's got permanent congestion and he just can't clear it. Very irritating for him - and for me having to listen to him constantly trying to hawk up the congestion ?. The doc has given him a nasal spray to use a couple of times daily, but I haven't noticed any reduction in the noise levels ☹️
