I was wondering if anyone has experience and tips. I am facing three ankle and foot surgeries, one month apart. I will have to use a "knee scooter" and I'm imagining I will be pretty much housebound for that period of time. Does anyone have experience of this type of scenario? Any tips on how to navigate these three months of virtual isolation? My one daughter lives in New York City, and the other is pretty much estranged, and sister lives in the UK (I'm in Canada) so not much help coming from there, unfortunately.

I had to have four weeks without putting my foot to the floor and will have to have other one done which may take longer. I did an awful lot of laptop work including some writing, lots of retail therapy - it was near Xmas so I did everything on line and saw a lot of TV. Could you Skype relatives and friends?
I hope it all goes well for you and it makes your more mobile when its all done. xx

There is an outdoor knee trolley which expands your horizons.

As you are in Canada I don't know what help is available for you but are there voluntary groups you could contact who could visit you? How about the local church, even if you aren't a member. Do you belong to classes or groups- could you invite people you know to visit you? Would some of the pupils from a local high school visit? In USA they get credits for volunteering outside of school.
I had a hip operation and had 6 weeks recovery. I caught up on box sets, read, painted and knitted and posted to Gransnet.
Good luck with the operations. Let us know how you get on.

Hi, my husband has had ankle surgery a few weeks ago. He was in a cast for 6 weeks and under strict instructions not to weight bear during that time. He had a knee scooter and crutches. It was fine - he used the scooter indoors and the crutches outside. He couldn't drive but still went to work and got around pretty much as normal.

He now has a boot for six weeks and doesn't need his crutches or scooter now.

Do you have any friends who could help? I guess if you have an automatic car and it's your left foot in the cast you should be able to drive. My husband's surgery was to his right leg so he couldn't drive. Hopefully you won't be as housebound as you think. Good luck!

I recommend to rest as much as possible, to let your body recover from the surgery. Hydrate your body. Reduce fat consumption and eat lots of fiber. And it is important as well to take care of the wound, to help reduce the scar I used DermalMD treatment for scars.
