In the eighties a car bonnet fell on my shoulders , I had my head and shoulders under the bonnet , not hit by a flying car bonnet ?

Had to have traction and other forms of treatment at the hospital for some time.

Nothing to do with them since.

This Thursday I will receive a phone call from a physiotherapist to discuss home treatment for weakness of limbs, loss of muscle etc,

Anyone have this treatment , what can I expect ?

I'm guessing based on my own recent experience but I imagine its a series of exercises under instruction to begin with and then on your own.

In my own case I had to attend my local hospital for six weeks for classes on strengthening the lower limbs. We had to use the gym and also learn a series of exercises to be continued at home. I discovered my main problem was to do with balance.
Good luck with the treatment.

I have never found physio of any use at all! In fact, often the repetitive movements made things worse!

I prepare to duck below parapet as all the ex-physios on here jump down my throat!

No I agree with you luckygirl starting with a slipped disc years ago and a fortune spent on a private physio (none available at that time on NHS) I went to an osteopath who literally put me straight in a few sessions. I tried NHS physio this summer exercises useless back at the osteopath she is sorting me - probably take three sessions for my displaced/stressed sacro- iliac joint and ligaments caused by my arthritic foot pointing outwards and taking my posture with it.

I have been attending a physio recently (NHS) and my experience is similar to Teetime's with additional exercises being added as progress is made. My problem was to do with the nerves in my legs among other things and, it was found, was being triggered by lower back problems. For me, it is working and I am very grateful for the treatment.

I had physio after a broken limb - only four NHS sessions which seemed very basic and not a great deal of use.
My friend also broke a limb and has been to a private physiotherapist and is doing much better than me.

However - it is worth a try and a programme of exercises could be recommended which could help.

I've had physio recently for my shoulder (torn rotor cuff muscle playing tennis grin)
It was quite useful, lots of using tins and wine bottles as weights or stretching using resistance bands. I'd certainly give it a try. A good excuse to buy something delicious to consume after you've finished using it for your workout ! wine

I can't say I've ever found physio of much use either but I know plenty of people who say it's wonderful.

I've found physios to be a panacea but not good sorting out the root of the problem. I attend an injuries specialist who knows about muscles and strengthening exercises. He's spotted problems that physios - and my GP - have missed and has been able to put me back together.

Thank you all, I don't have an injury, just need to get muscles working and limbs stronger .

I have had lots of physio over the years (none in the last few years though)and I have always found it to be really effective but it is something you have to keep doing . Hope you see some benefit Annie .

Physiotherapist came this morning.

I am having my hands measured and strapping made to support hands and help to straighten twisted fingers.

She will write up a programme to suit my lifestyle , my bungalow , my needs .

So a successful morning, she was lovely, no ' you must do this and that '
