I'm going for my first infusion in an hour so following this thread avidly!
I'm not going to google it as I have no other options after trying both Alendronic Acid and another drug and both of those caused all sorts if digestive problems. I'm also in the middle of having some fairly heavy dental treatment so am worried about that too.

I have osteoporosis and cannot take alandronic acid orally so I have an annual infusion
I ve never heard of Prolia
I think there are so many advances in medicine that are not really advances as they cause something else so I probably won’t go down any farther routes if the infusion didn’t work but take my chances

Getting older is a "Buggeration"

Luckygirl. I am having another blood test tomorrow as my blood calcium is higher than it should be.

I had this a few years ago when I had one Parathyroid Adenoma which was removed as it was leaching the calcium out of my bones. (One down three more to go.)

I was put on the dreaded Alendronic Acid then and it was not pleasant.
It did go back to above the osteoporosis bone density levels. My bones are possibly compromised . I had not expected I might have to go through this again . Or I am being really pessimistic.

Seen consultant again - I am way "in the red" on the osteoporosis graph, so prolia it is. I plan to talk to my dentist first and get any major dental work out of the way asap.

Ah - that sounds good.

Our local hospital does not provide reports on DEXA scans; just the raw figures, so my GP has struggled to learn anything useful from the scan result, except that I have osteoporosis, which we knew already! There is no comparison with previous scans; nor any recommendations for treatment. But she is sending me to the hospital with a view to Prolia, as I do not tolerate alendronic acid.

She says all treatments for osteoporosis are "horrid", and it is a question of balancing risk - but how, I ask myself!

I’ve had two six-monthly injections now after alendronic acid did nothing and I suffered a fractured vertebra followed by my lumbar spine twisting sideways (scoliosis). I was very apprehensive after reading scare stories about Prolia on line, but my lovely GP assured me it would be fine, telling me that her Mum is on it! So far no ill effects and the injection is no worse than a ‘flu jab.

It is proposed to put me on this - anyone else have experience of it?
