Spinal stenosis

I have had this for some years. I have intermittent pain in the backs of my legs and often numbness and pins and needles in my feet when I walk any distance. If I sit down for a few minutes or stretch over downwards from the waist then pins and needles goes again. I have a high pain threshold so only take painkillers when it's worse than usual. I try and walk every day and am reasonably supple still. It is worse on the right side as I have a pinched disc that side also. The consultant I saw recommended I have a course of injections into my back when I decide the pain is bad enough but said these would only provide relief for a limited period of time, he said I would probably need a back operation in the future . I think it's very individual but keeping mobile definitely helps

winterwhite spinal stenosis is one back problem which is fairly well treated by surgery but please, if you do decide to go down that route, choose an orthopaedic surgeon who only deals with backs even if it means you travelling to a larger hospital..

I suffered for years, I took various painkillers and had 3 nerve root block injections. Eventually I had 3 operations and haven’t looked back.

Mine causes Sciatica and I also take Naproxen long term, I find stretching exercise help a lot. Knees to chest, stretching the hamstrings, on my knees and gently drop the spine down then up again. Mine pain is a lot less now than it was originally.

Has anyone suffered with this? Any tips for dealing with it? I often get severe low backache when walking, instantly relieved by sitting down, gradually improves during the day. When painful makes me walk bent forward like the old people crossing signs. Otherwise am fairly supple -can bend and stretch etc. Naproxen, which I take for arthritic knee helps so I suppose there’s an element of inflammation. Hosp where treated for knee not very interested. Thanks in advance for any advice.
