How old are your ears?

Hearing starts to deteriorate as early as eight years old, cutting out the lowest and highest ends of the range. ClassicFM have an online pitch test to find out whether your hearing is younger or older than you are. (It seems mine are 60+)

Mine was also 40-50 which I'm pleased about because both my brothers are deaf.

Just done it again in a quiet room. I’m now 40-50. So is my DH.
He must have been lying! My suspicions about his selective hearing hVe been proved.

Helps too to put the sound on, my first time it was on mute.

I couldn't hear any of them. But then I did it again and pressed "play" grin

crazyH Sat 26-May-18 15:08:30

Mine is 60+

Besstwishes Sat 26-May-18 14:49:23

Just double checked mine it’s still under 25.

Besstwishes Sat 26-May-18 14:42:54

Mine are 25! Which explains why I’m forever asking my DH to turn the sounds down on TV, radio and his computer, or I go into another room. Maybe it IS me and not that he’s going deaf!

Greyduster Sat 26-May-18 14:28:58

Mine was 60+, which is surprising seeing as DH always says I can hear a pin drop in Siberia!

Elegran Sat 26-May-18 11:57:17

It is a very simplistic test, really for general interest, not a thorough medical investigation. It just plays a series of noises at different frequencies and then puts you (or your ears) into a wide band according to how high or low a frequency you detect.

60+ for me too and as I m 70+ that’s ok

annsixty Sat 26-May-18 11:36:08

Also not sure of the accuracy of the test.
I am 80 but hearing 60+ which seems most of us are.

Willow500 Sat 26-May-18 11:18:46

Mine was 40-50 which is good considering I'm 64 with a love of very loud heavy metal grin

PamelaJ1 Sat 26-May-18 11:02:29

Just done it, I’m also 60+.
I thought I’d gone deaf at first!

GrandmaMoira Sat 26-May-18 10:51:39

I've just done the test and it says my ears are 20-30 which is amazing for someone over 60. I've always had very acute hearing but thought it had faded. I do find very high pitch uncomfortable.

nanaK54 Sat 26-May-18 10:06:33

60+ for me, fine, I'm 63 smile, however, my family will tell you I have the ears of a bat grin so I'm not at all sure of the accuracy of this test

gillybob Sat 26-May-18 10:02:58

Just done the test and mine are under 25 . shock

Elegran Sat 26-May-18 09:55:53

No-one seems to have anything over 60+ MrsEggy It'll be like those labels he press uses - too old for them to be bothered distinguishing between 60 and 100. We are all just "old people"

MrsEggy Sat 26-May-18 09:26:06

My hearing is 60+. Since I am 80+ that seems a good score - or is that the highest (or lowest) score they do?

glammanana Sat 26-May-18 09:10:30

Wow Gilly we where talking about the same thing when we went to visit DS & DIL & new baby, the baby follows DSs voice wen he moves around the room,he used to talk to her in the womb every night when DIL was resting.
My hearing test also gave a 60+

gillybob Sat 26-May-18 09:04:18

Thank you Elegran how lovely to think she must recognise the song she heard before she was born and hearing it now brings her comfort. I must tell DD. smile

SueDonim Sat 26-May-18 09:01:18

I got 40-50, which is surprising as I was recently told I'd benefit from having a hearing aid! I'm in my early 60's.

NfkDumpling Sat 26-May-18 08:18:26

60+ here too. But I am definitely 60+ - and with tinnitus, so its nice to be normal.

Belgravian Sat 26-May-18 00:24:09

I got 60+ and I'm

52!

I have always felt I'm a bit deaf though. I suffer with swimmers ear a lot.

I don't watch much tv but if I do I have to have the subtitles on especially with modern films as they all mumble and there is lots of background noise!

Elegran Fri 25-May-18 23:51:29

At a "proper" hearing test mine were "very good for your age". As I am nearly 80 I suppose 60+ is the same kind of result.

Elegran Fri 25-May-18 23:49:09

The average age of Gransnetters was 60 when they did the last survey - I suppose it isn't surprising that so many of us have ears that are 60+ years old.
