A recent bout of thrush meant I needed to get fluconazole from the chemist.
Wouldn't get the branded stuff. Non-branded-Results: £9.19 in Boots, £6.99 in independent chemist in one town and £2.99 in another independent in another for exactly the same tablet and exactly the same dose.
Boots are clearly taking the p--- sorry taking advantage of millions for people who rely on their reputation.
Anyone else got any examples?

I've got no examples, but as with anything else, it pays to shop around.
When I was nursing we used to compare prices from the drug directories. The mark up on most of them is staggering.

Ranitidine indigestion tablets. Branded version £3.79. Boots version £3.19. Home Bargains £1.35.

My daughter needs thyroid medication. Besides the normal thyroxine the specialist prescribed T3 to take in conjunction with it. The NHS have now said it must no longer be prescribed due to the price. It was costing about £9 a month and has gone up to almost £300 a month in U.K. I spoke to the local pharmacist here in France and she looked into it - it costs less than €4 for a months supply - how does that come to be?

It's because drugs firms are basically holding the NHS to ransom, Welshwife. It's happening in America, too. The price of some old drugs has gone up astronomically, just because the manufacturers can. angry

Did you know that when a pharmacist offeres to review your drugs they get paid by the NHS £28 i think .

Welshwife - a similar price difference for our daughter in UK and in France for a cortisone injection.

I never buy over the counter medication in Boots, they are more expensive than our other local Chemists and far more expensive than the Supermarket brands.
