Terrified of Mammogram

Just as the title says really . I have an appointment for a mammogram on Monday morning . I’ve already cancelled 2 appointments, one because I genuinely couldn’t make it and the other because I was frightened to go.

I’ve had 2 previously and they were both absolute agony . The second one was so painful I couldn’t stop myself from crying and had to beg the radiographer to stop .

My mum had bone cancer ( among many other things bless her ) that spread from undiagnosed breast cancer so I know I should be thoroughly ashamed .

Has anyone got any advice they could share please ? I’m so frightened and worried about it .

So pleased to hear you went Gilly. We all have different fears or concerns and at times feel overwhelmed by them so a pat on the back for facing up to them.

Your crackers Annie grin

( in the nicest possible way ) x

Gilly, my point is a persons fear is torturous for them so you must not say you were silly, who says ‘ goody I hope it hurts as much as last time ?

Perhaps I should think about that one ?

I’m in childminding duties tonight so no wine I’m afraid . I’ll have an extra glass on Friday though . wink

Oh Annie My fear of having a mammogram was based on a previous (probably grossly exaggerated in my head ) bad experience . I turned it into something massive, which it shouldn’t have been .

Suffering as you do is not the same . You have had some tragic events to deal with, enough to break anyone . I just feel sorry that you are unable to get out and no longer have your family around you for support . I do hope you can eventually take “baby steps” with your scooter, then who knows are your confidence grows...... smile

Oops! Didn’t catch up with the thread first, silly me! So glad it’s over with.

Luckylegs Mon 20-Aug-18 14:11:23

I too find it very painful usually but last time I found the whole process much less embarrassing and painful. You didn’t have to sit waiting with no bra on (so uncomfortable), you just took your bra off in the room, I mentioned my terror and they were gentle and didn’t press down as much as usual (ouch!). Do go and get it over with for another three years.

Anniebach Mon 20-Aug-18 14:00:46

gilly, if you are silly fearing a mammogram when a previous one caused you much pain what does it make me , too fearful to venture out of my front door.

gillybob Mon 20-Aug-18 13:39:50

You are very kind Annie smile

I never worry about dental check ups or even dental work. But I have lost so much sleep over this. I think maybe I had a bit of a bad experience last time and so I have built it up into some massive thing. I feel quite ashamed now that its done.

HildaW Mon 20-Aug-18 13:37:59

Gillybob...facing up to a fear is never silly! Well done you and here's to the all clear! XX

Anniebach Mon 20-Aug-18 13:36:32

Fear is never silly my love , think how many fear a dental checkup x

gillybob Mon 20-Aug-18 13:31:49

Yes maybe Annie . The radiographer this time was very nice and understood my fears which I believe helped a lot .

I feel so silly about it now though .

Anniebach Mon 20-Aug-18 13:16:05

Perhaps you had a period last time gilly, may explain painful boobs . You were brave admitting you were fearful x

gillybob Mon 20-Aug-18 12:28:09

Well it's all over and I'm back at work. Why did I build it up into something so terrible, I was seriously considering not going through with it? blush It was uncomfortable for sure, but no where near as painful as it was last time (or as I remembered it to be last time).

What a Silly Billy I feel. Just the wait for the letter now. hmm

OldMeg Mon 20-Aug-18 11:28:23

Man up!
