Hearing aids & cordless phones

Has anyone come across a problem with this? I'd no idea it was an issue, and have just purchased some cordless phones from Gigaset to replace v elderly bt ones. The new ones greatly disrupt DH's hearing aids (buzzing, whistling) to the extent that he has to turn them off/take them out in order to talk on the phone. Not sustainable. General blurb about these phones says they are 'hearing aid compliant', but deep in the manual I read that people experiencing problems should contact their hearing aid supplier. Doesn't sound very good to me.

Does anyone know what causes this and whether the phones themselves can be adjusted in some way? Was not a problem with the old ones we had. We now have base phone plus handsets in 3 other rooms (old set only had two). They were set up for us so that they could be used to transfer calls across the house, wh we certainly don't need - shouting will do fine.

Many thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

If they are really no good for your DH, surely you could return them as 'not fit for purpose', and get a refund.

Not sure if this would help but Mr C finds using the phone via speakerphone works a treat with his aids. He says his hearing aids don’t make a noise, it’s just clearer that way. Sounds as if there’s a compatibility issue. Sorry, don’t have the answer for you other than ask the supplying clinic for advice. There may be an easy fix.

DH was told to hold them above his ear rather than in the usual place.

Those sound like good tips, Corner and Kitty, thanks. Don’t want to return them because don’t think the problem is unique to this make. V annoyed, though.

I use cordless phones with my NHS hearing aids. Do prefer them when speaker is on, as it makes the conversation clearer. Never experienced any problems with hissing or buzzing. Some aids need to have a button pressed for using with phones.

It may be worth querying the functions of the hearing aids. I use Bluetooth and receive phone calls directly into my hearing aids.
