I use Slippery Elm and acidophilus bifidus capsules, as well as oats (raw with milk or as porrage) all these things encourage your bowels to act naturally. As does good quality fibre, taken a Psyllium if you don't eat, or like, wholemeal bread.
Laxatives, so my doctor tells me, don't and only make the bowel dependent on them, or what she calls 'lazy'.
