Hi I have sinusitis and this is week 5 so feel like I'm never going to get better. Have had steroid nose drops and nòw on antibiotics for a week, but there doesn't seem to be any improvement.
Anyone know how long this will last? I have no sense of smell either will it come back? If anyone knows of any home remedies please let me know as I'm feeling so low with this. Thanks.

I suffer from this too, it's so debilitating.
I have it at the moment, I've had a blinding headache for days.
I find steam and menthol crystals help. There is also a salt water nasal spray, you can buy, that may ease it.
My son also uses sinus washouts, which he says helps.
I hope you feel better soon.

Sinus problems are horrible. I had them in the 70's and was prescribed Albucid spray. Don't know whether this is still available but I do remember that it helped at the time. Unfortunately the condition does return if you've had a cold.

I use Sterimar spray - a very fine, purified seawater spray. It definitely helps relieve the pain, but doesn’t seem to cure the problem.

Are you sure it’s not a form of pollen allergy. I get it every year at this time when the daffodils are out and the tree pollens start.

I was being treated for sinusitis by GP as I had all the symptoms then the practice nurse mentioned she takes an antihistamine and !!!! ‘sinusitis’ mysteriously vanishes.

Worth a try.

One of my children and I have been told, that as carriers of a mutated cystic fibrosis gene, that is probably the cause of our chronic sinusitis. There is a correlation between the two.
I have been taking antihistamines for weeks and it makes absolutely no difference.to me.
I have also been prescribed antibiotics for the rest of my life for another condition, so I don't know what the solution is.
Sqiffy, Sterimar is the name of the spray I was thinking of.

I have had sinusitis in the past. It often takes a second round of antibiotics to clear it. I use the Sterimar spray, use decongestants & paracetamol at night and inhale steam (20 minutes by the clock).

I suffered with sinusitis a couple of years ago. Tried various otc remedies but the one which worked within a couple of days was a homeopathic remedy call Kali-Bich recommended by my dentist.

Why take antihistamine for ‘weeks’ if it doesn’t work? An antihistamine either works almost immediately or not at all. It’s not something that has to build up in your body like some medications.

this is a good link to read

I take antihistamine is for multiple allergies Anya, not my sinusitis. I was only commenting that it has no effect on my sinusitis after the comment about the nurse and her sinusitis cure.

When I was a child I used to get 'catarrh' ....you don't hear mention of this any more, maybe it has a new name? My mum used to get me to sniff warm salt water up my nose or put Friars Balsum in hot water and enhale the steam. It definitely seemed to help. Does anyone else remember these rememdies?

My mother used Friar's Balsam all the time for my father, who suffered from chronic chest problems. I can still picture the bottle and my father with a towel over his head..
