Shrinking clitoris - Sorry to have to ask !

This is definitely a question for the ladies !
I went through a natural menopause very early - 39 ! I did not have any HRT or anything else. I'm now nearly 59 and have noticed in the past few years my clitoris is shrinking to almost non-existent existence. Is this something I've never heard about and is just something is ladies do not talk about ? And if anyone else has noticed it happening to them , did you go to the Drs and if so what happened, was prescribed etc ? Apologies for a sensitive (!) question .

There are many different types of HRT and vaginal HRT is very often prescribed for older ladies - cream or pessaries -for thinning skin as is atrophy which can be very painful /sore/itchy . Your doc should prescribe unless there is a reason as to why you can't use . Used for some time will plum things up again !!! It's all down to lack of osteogen. !! Good luck

Perhaps a shrunken clitoris might be something slightly more liveable with than depression and anxiety?

It is our responsibility to make ourselves familiar with all parts of our bodies so that we notice any changes that could be suspect, breasts for example.
Great post Espee.
Travelsafar, I initially saw a private gynae for HRT. However, once my lovely GP witnessed the positive change in me due to HRT she was more than happy to prescribe it under the NHS.

I think it's reasonable for the OP to go to her GP if she's worried about her atrophying genitalia - particularly as she's only 59 and had her menopause at a very early 39.

Many on here seem to live at the GPs for various anxiety disorders and worries!

God! I would never look! Seems to be more coming out than ever goes in these days.

Bridgeit Wed 03-Apr-19 14:29:42

How did you notice/discover ?
Genuine question I have not been that intimate with sizing up these bits , I have been going by what comes out ( or goes in ) comfortably then all must be ok ?

Absolutely agree with harrigran. Please think twice before going to already over-worked doctor's with this kind of thing. You are ageing. Accept it. No one stays a spring chicken for ever.

Not a problem for your GP, waiting times are long enough without taking up appointments for anatomical aberations. Consult Dr google.

Haven’t a clue. I now feel really bad that I just haven’t paid enough attention to my body. Or any attention come to that. I only realised recently that I have really bad cellulite on my thighs. When did that happen!

@travelsafar. The government produces guidelines for best practices for the medical profession. All doctors in the NHS are expected to follow these guidelines.
It is easy to find the one you need. Just google "NICE guidelines on the menopause" or anything similar (sorry, I don't know how to link)
Make yourself thoroughly familiar with the content (easy to understand) then you can visit your doctor fully informed.
The "innocent" question about why she is not following the government guidelines on treatment can have a dramatic effect or you can mail her a copy and ask for an appointment. Other approaches are to ask to be referred to a menopause clinic or simply changing doctor.

@phoenix. Just as pregnancy was not optional before the advent of the pill, menopause is now optional thanks to hormone replacement. Makes a huge difference to your quality of life although there are a few women for whom it is medically contraindicated.
Chief benefits to my mind are strong bones, maintaining youthful energy, and no atrophy of the female organs.

All this reminds me of the very old joke.
A) Do you smoke after sex?
B) Don’t know I’ve never looked!
Makes me laugh out loud after years grin]

Yes, same here, one moment my undercarriage was all normal, the next minute all shrunk!

As I said to my GP, it looks like I have undergone a (very expensive and successful) labiaplasty. She didn’t laugh.

I am also now using the pessaries with the plastic plunger (VagiFem - obviously named by a man!)

travelsafar Sun 31-Mar-19 09:17:35

wish i could get HRT from my gp but she WILL NOT prescribe!!!!

On my word I can’t believe this thread they re going up and down now ?

Sunnysideup Sat 30-Mar-19 22:35:28

Hi Hellsbelles, yes, after 12 years of hell otherwise known as the menopause, my clit gradually shrunk. At 64 I started HRT patches and now, after five years of oestrogen, my clit is back to normal size. Mother Nature didn't expect us to live much after the menopause so probably felt our feminine bits would be redundant!

BlueBelle Sat 30-Mar-19 22:34:30

It is Lily a shrinking museum

Anja Sat 30-Mar-19 22:21:25

Lily so did I!

Lily65 Sat 30-Mar-19 21:37:29

OMG re VA. Thought it was a museum.

Hellsbelles Sat 30-Mar-19 20:23:57

Yes I never suggested VA in my post but having read about it I was asking to see if it was suggested as I'm suspecting it was also. Thanks again.
