Hammer/bent toe

I have a bent toe on each foot and have kept them covered with special toe caps which have work well, however one of the toes must have bent more and it has been quite painful. The podiatrist has given me something to strap around my toes which does help but I hate having my feet strapped up all day. I will be seeing him again on 5 weeks time and he says I may need shoe inserts to straighten my toes.

Any suggestions of what works for you ?

I have several like that, I'm probably older than you.
I think the toe gets bent because of arthritis in one of its joints. Then often corns develop on the knobbles.
Over the years I've given up wearing strong/ leather shoes and boots and now only wear various types of Skechers soft shoes. Which help a lot.

I have always had bent toes which I hate, thankfully not painful, touch wood, but often think I need toe straighteners but wonder if they work. I also think corns develop on the bent bits. Oh, how I wish I had pretty toes and feet!
Think it can be hereditary, Dad had hammer toes.

I had hammer toes on my left foot! After trying all the usual podiatry suggestions my GP referred me for surgery. I had one toe fused (joint doesn't bend at all now) and the tendons cut on the other two toes. It was done under local anaesthetic and I had an open shoe for a few weeks! Not painful at all!

I'm well on the way to total bent up toes.

They do look as if someone has taken a hammer to them, and often feel like it too.

I started a new thread on hammer toes, silly me, forgot about this one!

My mum had some toe splints that she wore to sleep in.

She gave me some, but I found I had taken them off in my sleep.
