Temperature is the measure of average kinetic energy of the molecules

Molecules have three types of kinetic energy

1-Translational

2-Rotational

3-Vibrational

Older people are more prone to lower core temperatures. That does not = lower core temperates = "normal" for older people.

I have read studies which suggest our core temperature does decline with age.

And your peripheries may get colder for vatious age related reasons

Your CORE temperature doesnt lower with age. Your ears may be more waxy any you may be more prone to hyperthermia though

On the way to A&E in an ambulance, a paramedic said my temperature was higher in one ear than the other. Apparently that isn't uncommon.

Apparently as we get older our temperature gets lower.

People with thyroid and some other issues can have lower normal temp ranges. So 37 is a fever to them

Dogs have a higher temperature, around 39 Celsius. It's really uncomfortable trying to keep cool with one that insists on sitting on your lap or snuggling up to you because that nasty draughty fan is going.

Isn't it amazing to think that 37 º or 98 F is normal body heat and yet ambient temperatures of much lower are causing people to faint and complain?

Humans really are hot stuff smile

No you take the higher. Home thermometers are more likely to give false lows than false highs. Even if your thermometer is accurate the low could be a waxy or narrow ear.

Just surfacing from bronchitis and thought I would take my temperature. to prove I am better - so......took it with ear thermometer and it said 37.7 - hmmm - just out of scientific interest I took it in my other ear and it said 36.4.

Do I take the average!!??
