Them blinking mossies!

I am another one who takes antihistamines daily during the summer. I have really bad reactions to insect bites and this does stop them from becoming inflamed.
Yes, it would be midgies in Scotland and their big cousin the cleg or horse fly. Grrrr.....

BBevan - Maybe those that got you in Scotland were Scottish midgies, not mossies.
They're a more serious matter than mossies. Though I don't think they spread disease as mossies do.

They used to love me but eating high strength garlic tab (not odourless ones) and not drinking milk means they now ravish the lady friend instead!

I react badly to mossie bites. As soon as I feel it I prick the centre with a pin and try to squeeze out the venom. Then disinfect.
In France we used to get bitten by harvest mites which are even more itchy.

We use Tea Tree Oil here to repel mozzies and it's recommended you dilute it with a light carrier oil.

Does the trick to keep 'em away but if you are bitten, dab the TTO on it and it soothes.

It is so useful, has 101 uses.

I have terrible reactions to insect bites. To the point of making me ill and covered in hives as well as itchy swollen bites.

But as mentioned by a couple of people. I take vitamin B1 from May to September and use Mosquito Milk when outside.

It’s made a massive difference, very rarely get bitten now and not that awful reaction either.

My daughter came to visit yesterday and was scratching the bites she got whilst camping a few days ago. Her skin looked very red so I cut open a big aloe vera leaf and she rubbed that on every time the bites itched. The redness soon went and she went off to bed with more leaves!

. . .called in at Holland & Barrett yesterday to buy garlic capsules as someone recommended them but assistant said I needed Thiamine B1 instead. Have checked it’s ok with levothyroxine so will try them.
Did watch Apollo 13 at the weekend-I want one of those spacesuits-or, ironically, a Burqa, with gloves too of course!

Skin so Soft for me, too. Antihistamine cream just makes things worse - the bites get bigger and turn nasty. Have used Jungle Formula successfully, too.

Oh yes and DEET as repellent too

Just been to local Chemist. He advised steroid cream for bites and chlorphenamine tabs every 4 hours!

I think Jungle Formula is excellent.
Too late for this year but people I know start taking brewers yeast tablets a couple of months before the season starts. It gets into the blood stream and gives your skin a smell the little b.....s don't like.
Do try Jungle Formula though.

We have tiny little black critters here , they land on my skin and it feels like I have been bitten but no redness , I have to keep a damp cloth beside me and wipe them off . A large basil plant and a bit of Rosemary in a jar , plus a citrus candle help a bit , but I usually retire defeated and sit in the house

I always use Avon's Skin so Soft.

I do take a daily 24 hour antihistamine tab and have used the antishan cream too. Someone recommended Avon’s Skin so Soft too.
So I shall be using cleanser, then face cream, then sun cream then anti mossie-poor skin! You’d think the blighters would just slide of wouldn’t you?
Our. GP surgery says I can get antibiotics from our pharmacy so thinkni’ll get Some ready for Minorca trip just in case the bites don’t subside after 3/4 days

We went to Scotland a few years back. The mossies were waiting for me, queuing up actually, at Inverness airport. I came home looking as if I had chicken pox. And this was despite liberal applications of anything anti insect. No one else in our family group was bitten.

Jungle sprays are brilliant. Husband is allergic to mossies and we get loads of horseflies. Not good when you're working outside all day. Anthisan is excellent for when you get bitten. Get a tube when you've gone through security. Boots sell it.

Try antihistamine tablets , Newquay plus the itch relief sprays. Made such a difference when a horse fly bit me last week. Jungle formula repellant with Deet keeps the blighters away.

You could take antihistamines for a week before you go on holiday and during your holiday. They really help.
