Incontinence!

Has anyone experience of a vaginal pessary for prolapse rectocel/ cystocel please ...looking for info as to how successful they are !

I do too particulary if I orgasm or cough . It as you can imagine be embarrasing but have been put off having op.so try exercises this also help to keep good blood supply to genitals.

If you have received Botox injections in bladder to control incontinence, are results immediate, or does it take several days to become effective?

Tricia55...welcome to the club. Thankfully mine is not too bad and got better after some general health improvements. Core exercises and a bit of weight loss helped and a pessary.
Do get some professional help and ask around and do not always take what one personal says as gospel. Any doctor who bemoans the loss of the mesh needs to be avoided. It was a disaster waiting to happen...a surgical solution for one problem was seen as suitable for wombs etc....it was not researched enough and many women are paying the cost.
I get cross when I see some of the Ads on the TV......its good that they are bringing the subject out into the open...but its not 'Normal'....its common but in many cases their are better solutions than buying their products! Good luck.

I saw a specialist for this only this week and they do not use the mesh in the UK any more - much to his disappointment as he said it worked well for all his patients. My advice is to go and see a gynae/urologist sooner rather than later as there are non surgical options and some of these are better tried sooner rather than later. For example I have been given estrogen pessaries which will apparently thicken the vaginal wall to strenthen it, which will help whether I have the operation or not. Go and get some advice - the decision will be yours so there is no pressure, but I am sure we dont have to suffer with this x

I heard they'd stopped doing the op with the mesh due to too many complications with it.

However, my mum had it done years ago and has never looked back.

my dd had the mesh 9 years ago, it shreds her tampons and that is the least of it

I had the operation some years ago and it has been successful. Over night stay and then gentle recovery. I suggest you discuss with your doctor or get referred to an incontinence clinic for support.

EllanVannin, your so lucky to never have had surgery, although as the doctors say there is always a choice.
Glammanana, I am so glad your surgery was successful, I have heard so much about the mesh that it scares me, although on the radio a few ladies did mention botox therefore perhaps that's the way to go.

Tricia Good for you on facing the problem its not so bad really once you find what help you require to help you.
I had a repair 10yrs ago front and rear and felt so much better,I just stayed in hospital overnight then was very careful for about 6weeks after that the outcome was very good for quite a few years.
I now go every year for botox of the bladder to keep the neck of the bladder tight enough to stop me "leaking" my last treatment was 2 weeks ago and done in side an hour at our local hospital by my fabulous Gyne specialist,there is nothing to worry about really they are so good.

I've never had surgery fortunately, for anything ! However dependent on your problem whether or not it requires surgery there are pessaries that are used now that have been successful in supporting all areas of wherever the prolapse is.Though if the GP says surgery to fix it then so be it but there's really nothing to be scared of.
