Currently recovering from this, all as a result of walking too much on a city break wearing Sketchers . Physio told me they are the worst footwear as there is absolutely no support. Have had five physio sessions , and doing exercises in between . I found the standing on bottom stair one did me more harm than good so stuck to basic calf stretches and rolled my foot on a tennis ball whilst watching television ! Regarding analgesia , Naproxen prescribed by my GP helped and Paracetamol . Initially I did the PRICE Protect, wore a support, Rest, Ice and elevation . Now 10 weeks, have a couple of flares but mostly 100% improved. Good luck .

When I had it I visited a physio. The treatment helped but it was very painful, apart from the ultrasound.
It may be quite a long haul, but you will get there eventually.
Good luck!

Also, ask for a referral to biomechanics they'll make you orthotics that will help.

Hello, sorry to hear about your Achilles pain, it is rotten .At it’s worst a red hot knife stabbing it and at its best a grumbling ache. So....I have had it on and off for about 3years. At the acute phrase it must be rest, ice , elevation or it will never heal. Then I went for physio and yes stretching does help a little but footwear was my real problem. I have a dog and wanted to walk. Walking boots too heavy and pressed in just the wrong places. Wellies not enough support so I read up and tried Skechers step ups and Masai Barefoot technology. Totally different but correct way to walk and honestly sooooo comfortable and when you get used to walking correctly I really think that will help. Be warned though I still get flare ups and have to go through the rest period. Good luck and hope this helps

Thank you fourormore for the advice. I am doing all of the exercises that my doctor has given me to do. There is a slight improvement during the day but first thing in a morning is the worst time for the pain. The tablets are helping as well but they run out on monday. I think this is going to be a long process.

Appreciate your GP has given you pain relief and exercises but when I had this my GP showed me a very simple exercise and it worked!
Stand at the bottom of your staircase (or any single height step) and step up onto the step on the balls of your feet with your heels hanging over the edge. Gently transfer your weight backwards so that your heels drop down. This will cause a long but slow stretch which, honestly, worked for me. Do it as often as possible!
Good luck - it's a silly but very painful condition flowers

I went away on holiday about one month back and we walked and walked and my ankles hurt and ached like mad. Then two weeks after that we went to a music festival where for 3 days I danced and danced and again my ankles shouted. Well, when we got back I decided to get back into walking and try and kick some of this fat away and lose some weight. I walked about 2 miles per day. Then I joined my local zumba class and got stuck in and that is where it all started to go wrong. My ankles started to ache again. I went off to the drs on thursday of last week and she said that I have Achilles tendinitis. I normally wear jeans or leggings and hadn't really noticed just how swollen my ankles are. Oh boy, they are in a bad way. She gave me a list of exercises which I must do and also take time to rest them. I have some tablets to take and hopefully all will be well. The hot weather hasn't helped one bit.

Well, I have had ice packs on them and so far they are like having toothache in my ankles.

Has anyone else ever gone through this and how long did it last. I know we are all different and this could take a while.

Hubby is doing his best, but already he is getting on my wick as I battle depression on a daily basis as well, and this is really getting me down.

Any advice would be helpful.
