I have started making a strange noise.

It's when I am drifting off to sleep at night. I can hear myself doing it. It's not snoring because it is on the out breath. It's like, "herrrr, herrrr. My voice is definitely involved.

It wakes DH up. He quietly says, "be quiet", and I stop for a minute or two. Then off I go again.

Am I just weird? confused

Well, starting this thread seems to have cured me for the time being. smile

Funnily enough, last night DH started on it. I didn't wake him up.

I’m reading this in bed. I’m trying so hard not to laugh that I’m shaking and DH has just told me to be quiet and go to sleep!

I often make a grunt just as I am on the edge of sleep; by turning over on to my side, this stops the grunt and I go to sleep. I've noticed this is much worse when I have a cold, so it must be to do with the ear, nose and throat connection. And, like others, it sometimes happens when I'm drifting off while watching television!

I can’t stop myself from talking as I drop off,the other night I said “ summerhouse” my husband who wasn’t quite asleep said “I don’t want a summer house” I’d woken up by then and said” I don’t want a summerhouse either. How strange, it must be another age related thing.

Well I grunt as I go to sleep and I know I do it as I jolt myself slightly

Try as I might, I cannot make a snore sound when I am awake. But DH has complained about my snoring in bed. confused

OH’s snoring seems to have quietened down recently. It used to be so loud it could be heard from the pavement outside our house - and he was sleeping in the back bedroom! He used to give a little ‘pu’ sound after each roar.

DD2 has sleep apnea but rarely uses her breathing apparatus as it makes her skin sore and she says she doesn’t want to frighten her toddler.

I'm going with the purring. I do actually enjoy making this noise. (Yes, I know that's weird!) It's DH who doesn't enjoy it.

Alexa that is interesting about a pouch in the upper esophagus. I could well have that. But I don't think it's connected with this particular thing.

MissAdventure Wed 09-Oct-19 13:54:17

Mine is a croak, not a snore, grunt or purr.
Nothing so cute.

moggie57 Wed 09-Oct-19 12:15:01

its air trapped in your throat, try lying on your side .not your back.......

GrannyHaggis Wed 09-Oct-19 11:31:03

Gone Girl, have you tried using a triangular pillow so that you're not lying flat in bed? It's definitely helped me!

Madmaggie Wed 09-Oct-19 11:02:35

I grind my teeth - apparently ?

Alexa Wed 09-Oct-19 10:44:06

Maybe you have developed a pouch in your upper oesophagus. I have, and it can make that noise.

Welcome to the wonderful world of snorers.... www.nhs.uk/conditions/snoring/

I wonder if some of you may be suffering with Sleep Apnoea?

I have it and it can lead to all sorts of noises!

Apparently I have started to 'grunt' - I have no idea why or even that I am doing it but my DD recorded it, and I am most definitely grunting, nothing to do with sleep though ....

Gonegirl Wed 09-Oct-19 10:23:48

Callistemon grin

Gonegirl Wed 09-Oct-19 10:22:44

I do wonder if it's a form of purring. I like nothing better than be tucked up cosily in my bed. grin

NfkDumpling Wed 09-Oct-19 10:18:00

Oh, I’ve caught myself doing that too, I’m so pleased I’m not alone! Luckily DH usually falls asleep first so I don’t think he’s noticed!

ReadyMeals Wed 09-Oct-19 10:17:54

Well it's likely to lead to sleep problems for you as well as him if he wakes you up when you do it. You'll end up with that thing where you wake up with a start every time you start to drop off, in anticipation. If you have a spare bedroom, move into it, then you can whirr and hurrr in peace.

Teetime Wed 09-Oct-19 09:51:17

DH purrs - its quite comforting.

Jane10 Wed 09-Oct-19 07:05:53

Purring?
