Surely it is possible to just avoid the ones you don't like.

Apart from The Archers, all of the above. grin

Nothing wrong with them - just not my cup of tea.

Now.....What are we going to have for dinner? grin

But there are loads of threads that are not depressing or contentious:
Our Sewing Forum
Soops Kitchen
The argy Bargy
How will we cope without the Achers
Coronation street
Etc.
All the many games.
Surely it is possible to just avoid the ones you don't like.

Those suffering from clinical depression may take exception by the way to the title of the thread, just saying.

We keep getting threads like this and I’ve said before I like the fact that there is variety. Some of the news or political threads become heated because people feel, passionate about issues, surely that’s good ?
I don’t read any threads about crafting because I am useless at that sort of thing but I don’t say that we shouldn’t have them !

I completely agree with Teetime!

Rowantree. Offloading

Calling posters ‘nasty , embittered old crones ‘ is offloading ?

Maw is so right,

MawB Thu 18-Jun-20 11:58:55

Rowantee why should Teetime not express her feelings?
Surely there is room for all shades and moods but I totally agree that the majority of threads recently have been characterised by anger, bitterness and fury ( AIBU No going back to school, I’m furious as an example) or Anger at rule breakers ) -there is only so much fury a person can take without several cafecafecafe

Teetime Thu 18-Jun-20 11:58:22

I rest my case Rowantree.

TrendyNannie6 Thu 18-Jun-20 11:57:19

I think there will always be some people that struggle more than others, and I think it’s a real shame there are people that darent post due to the fact they fear a backlash from certain individuals. That’s really sad, kindness costs nothing

Rowantree Thu 18-Jun-20 11:51:27

Teetime, I found your OP harsh and judgemental. If you object to people offloading, feeling sad, grumpy or otherwise negative, try another thread. Telling people to 'lighten up' is patronising and unkind.

OceanMama Thu 18-Jun-20 11:23:15

Maybe the lower tone reflects the stress people have been under lately with lock down?

Toadinthehole Thu 18-Jun-20 11:22:51

I think the conversations are often good ones to have, and interesting...it’s just sometimes I feel a little anxious posting in case of a backlash. I definitely feel a sense of intolerance to other people’s views.

Calendargirl Thu 18-Jun-20 11:11:30

Totally agree Teetime.

Certain posts I only have to look who is writing on them and I don’t bother to read any further, as dissent and arguments seem to be the main aim.

When I joined GN, not too long ago, it seemed very different.

Sad.

Yes me too nothing much happening in our lives to entertain anyone else but I just think if we are only concentrating on the negative on here there isn't much point to it. I have been on Granset a long times and have loved the laughs, the information and the opportunity to help someone else with a query or some support. At the moment all that seems to be missing. Yes we are living through a terrible crisis on the health and the economic front but does being permanently argumentative and negative help that at all? Of course not I will try and think up a more lighthearted thread. Revolting Breakfasts went well didn't it? Put my thinking cap on.

merlotgran Thu 18-Jun-20 10:34:17

I wouldn't say it's affecting my mental health but all I can find to post about at the moment is what we're having for dinner! grin

MawB Thu 18-Jun-20 10:30:55

Good point Teetime! I must admit I am spending less time here because I either end up seething (about something) , depressed at the grumpy brigade or in tears! Mind you, I do spend too much time on my iPad anyway, but let’s at least try to find reasons to be cheerful! smile

I think Gransnet is seriously damaging my emotional health. I just read through all the posts and they are so depressing!!! For goodness sake lighten up.
