Embarrassing: Camping & Constipated

Sorry this is a bit embarrassing but we are currently on a camping holiday and I can't poo! We've been here since last Saturday afternoon and it just won't happen.

It's not helping having to use the site toilets - a 10 minute walk across a field and then six cubicles, lack of privacy and my bottom won't relax.

Then the more I worry that I'm not pooing the worse it gets. I've spent ages sitting in my cubicle waiting for everyone else to leave, which never happens!

Any tips on how I can finally go to the toilet?

Prune juice, I take a glass daily as medication causes constipation. The OP has my sympathy, it’s uncomfortable and becomes a tiny obsession until resolved!

Never feel embarrassed about any health conditions.
Many others will have similar conditions and might be to afraid to ask for help and advice.

I wonder why we are like this. I can't remember using the school loo for no 2s, and even as a grown up feeling awkward to do that in work, perhaps visiting a loo on a different floor from my office. blush

A bag of dried figs is always my travelling companion*Rach*?. Works without fail every time. It’s such a rotten feeling which drags you down. Hope things ‘ work out’ for you soon?

I so agree with another poster who said it’s a female problem. Most men don’t seem to mind if they are noisy, smelly, or just a long time in the loo.

I feel for you Rach as you perhaps can't relax simply because the toilets don't feel private enough - not like at home. Maybe you're scared of being overheard, "Mummy, I heard a noise!" Or a smell. It's inhibiting.
I can only add - do the things which you know would help if you were at home such as roughage, fluids and exercise. Failing that - half a pint of beer.

Yes, sounds like a combination of not being relaxed enough due to the toilet situation, and change of diet, water etc. A week isn’t drastic, unless you’re uncomfortable. There’s the obvious juices etc you can try. Are you able to be quite physical? Do you walk, run or swim? I know I had a good result once from going on a treadmill too soon after a roast!? Not to be repeated. If you’ve still got some holiday to go, I would find a local GP if things haven’t happened after the weekend! I wish you well.

“It’s wind on long haul flights that bothers me”

Is that the tail wind the pilot makes reference to on the tannoy? ?

Alexa Fri 21-Aug-20 10:27:12

I'd pack up and go home if there were not enough toilets.

Is your constipation caused by lack of toilets, or the wrong food, or both? If it's the wrong food/dehydration you can sort this without abandoning your holiday.

Sorry, but I'd recommend a glycerine suppository after at least one laxative pill the previous night. But unless you can use a portable toilet in your tent, you will just have to stay in the cubicle as long as you like. You have a perfect right to do so!

Try to wait until after breakfast before you go, or if you do set the alarm, have a drink of something before you go.
If you are worried about other people hearing you, put your fingers in your ears so you can't hear any other campers in the ablutions block.

It’s wind on long haul flights that bothers me...everyone else’s as well as mine! I can’t ‘go’ for a few days after a flight normally. One year I ate something at Hong Kong airport that didn’t agree with me and had to visit the plane toilet three times before we reached Sydney and apologise to everyone each time I came out. ?. Wish I’d known what it was Rachb, I’d have recommended it!!

Soda that puts me off having an affair! Can you imagine a dirty week end in Brighton and thinking about using the loo in the morning? grin

sodapop Fri 21-Aug-20 08:53:07

I am exactly the same rachb I find it difficult if not impossible to go when I am away from home. Does make holidays tricky. It's psychological with me nothing physical. When I was going out with Mr Soda we went on holiday and the B&B only had a curtain between the bedroom and lavatory, I made him go out for a walk every time I thought I could go, it was March in France and very cold. smile

Are you far from civilisation? Maybe you could go a short drive and use a supermarket loo?

I've resorted to doing that while staying with friends. Silly really, wonder why we have 'social anxiety ' in loos. It seems to be women, I don't think men worry about it! Rachb I think it's time you took a gentle laxative to help things along.

JackyB Fri 21-Aug-20 06:48:11

Or go to a restaurant and have a substantial meal and use their facilities?

Apples. Or strong coffee.
There seems to be a lot of toiletty threads at the moment. Is it the weather? ?

Calendargirl Thu 20-Aug-20 21:47:11

If you ‘need to go’, then you really should, don’t put it off thinking the loos will be busy, that’s how you get constipated.

What happens in Singapore stays in Singapore.

Most definitely!

rachb2020 Thu 20-Aug-20 21:41:20

Now back from the toilets...

No luck sadly - the bottom remain firmly closed!
