Antibiotics do not treat gout.

I've been using "ask my gp" for so long now I've forgotten how it started.
Once upon a time, when the world was normal, I was chatting to my friend the receptionist, when I spotted a leaflet on her counter about Patient Access. Which I filled in.
I can order repeat prescriptions, ask questions that aren't worth a visit and the doctor (usually the one I ask for) will phone me or email me with an answer. Sometimes I will be asked to come in for an appointment.
Yes a REAL appointment!
Email your surgery, or phone and ask (if you can get through).
I find the procedure invaluable because I have multiple problems.

Sparklefizz I assumed it was arthritis too but found gout is a form of it, which was a surprise.
Apart from being a bit overweight I don’t fit the rest of the criteria ie fast fatty food and alcohol etc. Glad you are managing your OA.

Thankyou ExD and mini moon for your replies. I have had cellulitis twice, is that related to gout?
My toe looks perfectly normal but it is painful. I was reluctant to contact the gp because of the inevitable faff. It’s so hard and takes so long getting through to them. Have not heard of Ask my Gp. Yes i am in the UK.
I have an appt with podiatrist next week and will discuss with him.

It sounds more like osteoarthritis to me which I also have in my big toes (and thumbs and a couple of fingers)

What has kept the pain at bay for me since 2014 when it started is Rhus Tox & Ruta Cream by Helios (available from Helios or Amazon). I rub it on hands and feet every night and it works a treat.

My DH had gout in his big toe a few weeks ago. His toe was red, not swollen, but very painful. He is prone to cellulitis so he made a telephone appointment with the GP. She asked him to send photos of his toe which he did. She then diagnosed gout and sent a prescription for antibiotics to the pharmacy for him to collect.
The course of antibiotics cleared it up nicely.

Are you in the UK? Do you have the 'Ask My GP' at your surgery? If so use that and send a photo (yes honestly) of your toe. Failing that I'd phone and ask for a telephone appointment to discuss it, in the first instance.
I'm reluctant to go to the surgery now and although I initially hated telephone sessions I'm beginning to appreciate them now.
Hopefully you've just knocked it without realising and the bruising is just coming out and causing pressure under your toenail, (which is very painful). I do hope its not gout.

My big toe really hurts though it’s not swollen or particularly red. The other toes and whole foot feels a bit sensitive too but it’s the big toe which is the main culprit. Checked on dr google and gout popped up. I know it’s not fasciitis as have had that before.
I walk a lot so am concerned. Should I (try to) see the doctor? Has anyone any advice. Thanks.
