Thanks to those who have replied. An update.
DS's GP advised him to go to A&E this afternoon where a nurse lanced the blister and put a dressing on it.
He has been given antibiotics in case the foot has been infected as it is swollen compared with the other foot.
Hopefully the problem will now clear up, even if it takes several more days.

It doesn't sound like a bite but it could be a fungal infection.

He needs to contact the GP.

We have clay soil that gets very damp and have masses of mosquitos most of the year round. Yesterday we could see a whole cloud of them above the lawn. We have loads of birds around the garden of all varieties but never see them going near the mosquitos.

Your DS needs a doc if he is in crutches and working from home

I got bitten a couple of weeks ago, on my back.

There is excellent advice for treatment of blisters on the official NHS Website. Do not burst the blister yourself being top of the list.

I have been bitten by the last surviving Mosquito in Belgium, it is cold here now, but I still got bitten last week.
When we lived in warmer climes they used to fly over X to bite me.
It could be but sounds like it should be checked out.

I was going to say a gnat, but------some gnat !

Sterilize a fine needle to burst the blister then soak the foot.

I had three tiny bites on my thumb last week. They didn’t hurt unless I poked them. I think they were gnat bites.

Hope your OH’s problem has resolves itself.

Could it be a verruca? They are painful.

Can you get insect bites in November?

DS has a huge blister on the sole of his foot which has been growing. It continued to grow even after he stopped putting weight on that foot. He is having to use crutches and work from home.

We are wondering if it could be an insect bite rather than a blister caused by rubbing. He never felt anything sharp going into his foot - maybe because the blister is on a thick pad of hard skin.

Any thoughts?
