I can't believe posters are advising Lily to circumvent the guidance - they're there for safety reasons. At 73 she is quite a way past the age were it shouldn't be used without seeing a GP.

Gagajo I could buy it online or even ask my daughter to buy it ,but after reading advice on here for the over 60/70 I may have to make a GP appointment , that’s if I can get one !!

Juliet 70. Well I would have been flattered but she couldn’t see my face as I had my mask on. The assistant only looked about 16 which made it more laughable really , but she was just doing her job that she was trained for.
Thankyou all for your input , I hadn’t really thought there may be another underlying problem that I am unaware of. To me it’s just the dreaded “ itch”.
Incidentally. When I was first married and a very naive 20 year old I had Honeymoon itch. , being to embarrassed to go to the Doctor I thought I would treat it myself. I bought TCP cream and used that .. Arrrrgh. My fanny was on fire for days. It was awful.

Thrush is rare apparently in under 16 and over 70’s.
Therefore a G.P needs to check it out,

I think that in the light of the pandemic and knowing your own body, you should be able to make the decision yourself. The pharmacist may well think the same, but has to follow the rules. I would go to a different pharmacy and buy it “for my daughter”. Or try buying it in Tesco, if they sell it.

It’s not licensed to sell to over 60s because vaginal thrush is less common in this age group (due to lack of oestrogen) and in case there are underlying conditions ie diabetes.

I guess if one is using vaginal oestrogen it may increase likelihood of thrush, but I don’t know. Am sure I’ve had thrush since I was 60.

Lilypops I’d be flattered that she had to ask whether you’re over 60 !! ?

I should have added that my pharmacist knew that I was on strong antibiotics, which always reulted in thrush, but I would still need to ask my GP for a prescription.

It has happened to me. Pharmacies are not allowed to dispense it, just in case it is something more sinister.

This medicine can be bought from pharmacies to treat thrush in adults aged 16 to 60 years. If you are under 16 or over 60 you should consult your doctor.
