My young nephew has a BAHA - bone anchored hearing aid. It does involve an operation to fit it to the skull. However, I don’t know anything else about them so maybe there are ones that don’t involve an op. Good luck!

Does your mother in law use a landline phone? If so it could have a headphone socket. You could buy her the same headphones as yours then. Perhaps someone would set them up for her at the care home.

If she uses a mobile then the headphones will fit that.

This phone : BT Diverse 7110 Dect Cordless Phone - has a jackplug for headphones.

Bone-assisted aids are only suitable for some kinds of hearing loss. Does she have a specific diagnosis?

I have a set of bone conduction headphones, which are brilliant. Whilst out walking today, I wondered if bone conduction hearing aids are available, and a google search confirmed that there are.

My mother in law has terrible problems in keeping hearing aids in, so gives up on them. This is obviously leaving her left out of conversations and becoming increasingly isolated.

She is currently in a care home for "respite and assessment" (I think it's unlikely that she will be able to return home to live on her own unfortunately) and is in isolation for 10 days as she went to the home from hospital.

Once she is out of isolation she will be able to mix with the other residents, so being able to hear, and take part in conversations, is going to be vital.

Before I waste money on sending her some bone conduction aids, I wondered if anyone had any experience of them. I'm wondering if they will be effective when using the phone. We live 200 miles away, so no contact other than phone at the moment, and we spend most of the conversation repeating everything half a dozen times. It would be so nice to be able to have a proper conversation with her.
