Hearing aids

Hearing Aids do require a little 'getting used to'. They should be worn for an increasing amount of time over a couple of weeks. Very silly having these and not using them, rather like having pills for a medical problem still its blister pack. Will do anyone any good.

I have needed to have NHS hearing aids now for close on twenty years. Cannot understate the incredible improvement in them over that time, as well as how small they are now. Even so, when I get new ones - I still have to take a week or two to climatise my brain to them.

Hearing aids firmly in - sub-titles on, sound levels can then be kept at appropriate levels. Sound Bar may also help - it is not just volume that causes people problems as their hearing gets worse with age.

Sorry to hear that EllieAnne especially as he can hear it OK when you've started watching before he does. Do you think his aids are working?

I had my NHS hearing aids last August and they've helped me so much. TV and radio are so clear. Perhaps subtitles are the solution for your husband.

They've helped to mask some of my tinnitus too.

We have subtitles on all the time apart for the news when it is live. We also complain like mad if subtitles aren’t available.

Same here Nonogran. I use subtitles.
I also have NHS hearing aids but they aren't the magic answer and nothing can restore the acute hearing of our youth.
And it's not just volume.
So EllieAnne try suggesting subtitles to your husband.

I use bi lateral hearing aids & have done since 2002. They're NHS & work well. I also suffer from quite severe tinnitus.
I always, always, use subtitles for telly. That way I can keep the sound at reasonably normal level for my Best Beloved's enjoyment & most importantly, I don't disturb my lovely neighbours.
Most modern TV's have subtitle functionality via the menu button on the remote control. My Panasonic TV is set up so they're permanently available as soon as I switch on. Easy peasy!
Some programmes don't offer subs so I just find alternatives that do. All the mainstream channels do & it adds so much to my enjoyment.

Funny you should say that spidergran,l have hearing aids but I am loath to wear them,they’re not particularly comfortable anyway twice now next door have knocked and asked me very nicely to turn the TV down, so embarrassing so I’ve compromised and got one in now ?

Have a chat with the neighbours & ask them to complain to him about the volume of your television?
