I really enjoy cauliflower rice now. I get frozen sachets from Asda. I cook it for 2 mins in Microwave, then dry fry it as egg fried rice stir fry.

My IFA followed the Blood Sugar Diet and reversed his T2 diabetes, I think he also lost three stone. When I saw him he looked ten years younger!

Those who follow the Blood Sugar Diet (Michael Moseley) are apparently sometimes able to reverse T2 Diabetes. Basically low and healthy carbs, higher fat and protein, and low cals for 8 weeks.

There is a good helpful Forum and a archive of Recipes here. thebloodsugardiet.com/recipes/

The Harcombe Diet by Zoe Harcombe is good for reducing the cravings for sugar.
It's a low carb way of eating and has reversed Type 2 diabetes in many who have chosen to eat this way.
The best book to buy is The Harcombe Diet 3-Step Plan, there is a group on Facebook for help and lots of information and videos from Zoe on Youtube.
I know you asked for recipes for cakes, biscuits etc. but if you can beat the sugar Monster, you won't crave sugary treats.
It's good for weight loss as well.smile

The diabetic nurse told my friend that diabetic chocolate is a waste of money, what is more important is a balanced diet. A little ordinary chocolate as part of the controlled diet should be ok.

My DD works in a health food shop. There are lots of items on sale suitable for diabetics such as chocolate. You can buy sugar substitutes too - totally natural, not the synthetic stuff. Do ask in your local health food shop where the staff should be well versed in diabetic requirements.

I have been diabetic for 7 years and for the last 18 months have completely reversed it with a low carb diet and the last 6 months have been off all medication ( previously 1 metformin tablet). I haven’t eaten pasta white rice or white bread or mashed potatoes for several years. They increase your blood sugar as bad as pure sugar.

I do cauliflower rice instead of rice. Occasional granary bread and occasional new potatoes. I eat lots of veg and salad and some fruit mostly apples. Sparking water instead of soda drinks , sweetners are as bad as sugar. You don’t crave sugar after a while.

The Diet Doctor website has lots of great recipes for those with T2D. I can recommend the chocolate mug cake! I like a couple of spoons of extra thick cream after my tea - excellent at bringing my levels down. Chia pudding made with Chia seeds, coconut milk and cocoa is great. I also like Greek yoghurt (not Greek style) with a few pecans, dark choc chips and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Has he a meter to test his bloods?

Another vote for the Michael Mosley fast 800 recipe books and website. Lots of good ideas and all delicious.

I am type 2 and just do not eat any cakes , scones etc. and the only biscuits I have are one little Maryland cookie a day . I have a very small helping of Oatybran at breakfast with an inch of banana ( one large ones does me for days I just wrap it ) and half an apple .

If your test for pre-diabetes is impaired then chances are it'll stay that way and can't be reversed but staying within dietary limits will stop the condition from getting any worse.
I've been pre-diabetic for years---no better, no worse with a cholesterol at no more than 4 with statins every night at bedtime( 25mg )

I think you are right Monica and Mapleleaf. The good morning thread is very big now so lots get missed . Thanks anyway for your advice and tips. ♥️

Deedaa, that made me laugh. DH is type 2 and his favourite meal is fish, mashed potatoes, cauliflower, all white! Sometimes we add leeks in white sauce.

Seriously, it is the overall balance that matters. Everyone is different. I have tried special recipes but he doesn’t like them. DH reckons potato works for him but not pasta. He has two weetabix every day, always a salad for lunch and half his plate full of veg for the evening meal. He also eats a biscuit with his coffee. I should add that his weight is steady, his numbers are good. When first diagnosed he gave up drinking coke which made a huge difference.
I eat the same but I can’t seem to lose weight!

DH made quite an effort to cut down on carbohydrates after he was diagnosed. For instance he stopped having a big bowl of cereal for breakfast and had scrambled egg with a crispbread. The drop in his blood sugar was quite noticeable. He quite enjoyed cauliflower rice instead of the real thing.

The best tip I read was if you want to cut down on carbohydrates take all the white food off your plate.

It’s possible that your request for information got missed on the GM thread Ginster rather than it being deliberately ignored. That thread has become quite big now, and I suspect people probably skim through posts and so miss certain details. I know I tend to skim if I come to the thread later because otherwise it would take so long to read it all thoroughly. By coming on the health forum and starting your own thread, you should reach a wider audience with more advice to offer. ?

There are a lot of recipe books available now as others have said, and the diabetes website would be another good source. Perhaps the NHS website might have some pointers, too. Also, the nurse your DH will see for his annual reviews will be able to offer dietary advice. Good luck. ?

Everyone has threads that never take off. I have had several. Re posted one a week or two later and it flew for weeks.

Gingster Fri 21-May-21 10:32:11

Thankyou all. Izabella that recipe sounds just the job. I’ll certainly give it a go. ?

If you check out the Diabetes.org.uk website they have a fair selection of recipes

Our son in law was pre diabetic. Our daughter got a cooking for diabetics book online Amazon or The Works or somewhere.

Dr Michael Moseley has a number of recipes books published. We found them ideal when my OH was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.
Alternatively, there's loads of recipes on the internet.

Tartlets

Fruit Carbs 8.5g protein 3.5g fat 12.3g fibre 2.3g calories 162

SERVES 12

5 medjool dates, stoned and finely chopped
80g softened butter
135g ground almonds
2 eggs
½ tsp almond extract
1 tsp vanilla extract
100g raspberries
Crème fraîche, mascarpone or double cream, to serve (optional)

Heat the oven to 220c/200c fan/gas 7. Generously grease a shallow muffin tin with butter. Put the chopped dates into a bowl with 4 tablespoons of very hot water and leave to soften.

Use a fork or stick blender to mash the dates to a pulp. Mix this pulp into the remaining ingredients in a bowl with a metal spoon, or use a food processor.

Spoon the mixture into the prepared moulds in the muffin tin (it should make 12 in total).

Lightly press 3 raspberries into each tartlet and bake for about 10 minutes, or until golden brown.

Remove the tin from the oven and allow the tartlets to cool for a few minutes before turning them out carefully. Serve as they are, or with a little crème fraîche, mascarpone or whipped double cream.

Type 1 or Type2? Either way check out the website diabetes.co.uk. Lots of help there and a section for recipes too.

Gingster Fri 21-May-21 08:10:44

I did post recently that my DH has been diagnosed with diabetes and received some useful information from lots of you. I was wondering if anyone has recipes for cakes, biscuits , pudding etc that are suitable.
I did ask in good morning Thursday post but no one replied.
Sometimes I do feel invisible on there, as someone else stated a while back.
Never mind ! I thought I’d try on a different thread.
