Am I doing it wrong?

I bumped into a neighbour in the supermarket this morning. She noticed I was buying interdental brushes and said she liked them because they last so long, apparently she treats them like mini toothbrushes and only changes them every 10 days or so - I treat them like dental floss and use a new one every day. Who is right?

What channel is LBC - for Steve Allen. Is it a national station in the UK. Do you know the wavelength - or whatever they call it these days. He sound like an interesting fellow although I don't agree with his attitude to recycling etc.

I could do with a change from Zoe Ball, she talks far too much!

There are some really good programmes on r4. News politics, science, comedy, plays, consumer advice, and Woman’s hour every morning, both educational and entertaining and always interesting.
Goes on all night too as world service for those insomniacs among us.

I don't like the ones with the metal core as they set my teeth on edge - not literally but YKWIM!

Thanks InnocentBystander for the info on the plastic core Wisdom ones. I didn't know you they existed. I shall be buying some shortly

I am another who has never heard of Steve Allen and agree with Allsorts, he should be ashamed,

Allsorts Fri 10-Sept-21 07:26:41

Steve Allen is not right in his throw away attitude, too lazy to wash. All that mountain of stuff to land fill. He should be ashamed.

I tried to use interdental brushes but even the smallest ones wouldn't go between my teeth as they are so close together. I can use floss. However, if the brushes had been successful I would have presumed that they only lasted for one day! Now I feel a bit silly hmm

I'm curious. I must listen to this guy. (Steve Allen)

Luckygirl Thu 26-Aug-21 08:46:45

Crikey - that would get expensive! - mine last weeks. I put some mouth wash in a little medicine pot (the plastic ones that you get on top of a bottle of medicine) and sit the interdental brush in that.

I use the same one till it falls apart!

I’m listening to him now!
I had a few months off from him this year, as he was really getting on my wick and talking about how marvellous he is all of the time (spoiler alert: he isn’t). And his constant ‘and err-ing’ is infuriating.

But I’m listening to him again this week and last.
There is something comforting about listening to him, it’s very hard to explain.
I often fall asleep listening to him, and I can hear him in my dreams, he follows me around, droning on…

Not only does he chuck everything away, he proudly says that he doesn’t recycle, it all goes to landfill sad

Fanny - you and me both. Have listened to Steve Allen for years, he is addictive! To correct an earlier post, he is not a night time presenter but early morning presenter 4.00am = 7.00am and I never miss it.

nadateturbe Wed 25-Aug-21 17:23:29

I agree Maggiemaybe about Steve Allen. Nothing to be proud of.

FannyCornforth Wed 25-Aug-21 17:22:26

Maggie sadly, no. He is a psychologist’s dream.
That’s only the tip of the iceberg.

He once fell on top of his halogen oven which was on the floor because his counters were too cluttered. He suffered terrible burns and had skin grafts. (He still went into work - even the day after the incident and told his loyal listeners all about it).
He makes out that he’s loaded, but lives above a snooker hall in Twickenham.
During lockdown he went out shopping, on public transport every single day for things that he thought were essential (ie disposable spoons).
He is incredibly bitter and twisted. He’s paid to talk about news and celebrities but he hasn’t a clue what he’s on about.

Honestly, I’m fascinated by him.

Maggiemaybe Wed 25-Aug-21 17:08:20

I’ve never heard of Steve Allen, but he sounds a bit of a plonker. So many desperate people could really do with the clothes he can’t be bothered to wash (or have washed, if using a washing machine’s beneath him). As for the damage to the environment from his throwaway clothes and single use household stuff…

Surely it’s a joke?

silverlining48 Wed 25-Aug-21 07:15:12

Where did that ? come from?

silverlining48 Wed 25-Aug-21 07:14:10

I keep them for s week, or as long as they are viable. I couldn’t afford to throw away after one use? They aren’t cheap. Added to that it would be a waste and while small are still plastic.

FannyCornforth Wed 25-Aug-21 06:20:53

His pants are from M&S though, not Costco

FannyCornforth Wed 25-Aug-21 06:19:50

welbeck

steve allen, night time presenter on LBC, buys multipacks of socks from costco.
he never washes them, just throws them away each day.
you are both right.

And his pants!
He also uses disposable plates and cutlery now, instead of washing up. He favours those metal trays that you get takeaways in confused
I am oddly obsessed with the man. He could be my specialist subject on Mastermind

That's how I read it, NfkDumpling (changing them after about a week). I got the impression the manufacturers thought I might be fibbing and had pulled the bristles out one by one in a bold attempt to get massive compensation for my compromised gums. They didn't even refund my postage or send me a voucher for another pack (not that I'd have wanted one anyway grin).

NfkDumpling Tue 24-Aug-21 18:25:24

70 uses Maggiemaybe? I suppose that means each gap counting as one use which would mean changing the brush after a week is probably about right. I can't use floss as it gets jammed between my teeth so the little brushes are perfect. I feel a lot better now I can use one for a week and not feel I'm being a tight miser.

fairfraise Tue 24-Aug-21 18:02:30

I'm much the same as above, but I don't know if they would go on 70 times.

Fennel Tue 24-Aug-21 18:01:10

I use the same one (cleaning between uses) until it gets too bent or the brush breaks off.

shysal Tue 24-Aug-21 17:46:58

I use the same one until it becomes too bendy, about every 2 weeks.
