Has anybody else tried turmeric supplements or homemade paste for aches & pains? I’m finding taking capsules is having quite a positive effect - or is that a placebo effect (who cares if it works!) ?
I put turmeric in a pan, add water. Bring it to the boil then heat for @ 7 minutes. Then add oil (coconut or olive) and black pepper. I can’t remember the act quantities but if you Google golden paste it will tell you. I add cinnamon to mine, too but as I mentioned I haven’t been using Ceylon cinnamon which I need to buy. I want to start my current dog on it before she gets any problems.
I just mix a tiny amount of golden paste with my dogs food and slowly increase the amount. The trouble with turmeric is the effect supposedly only lasts for 4 hours so you need to take it several times a day.
You have to be careful with turmeric if you are taking any other meds as they interact.
Please give more info or links about this, as I have never heard of this for turmeric.
We both take Turmeric daily, 1 capsule with black pepper and one capsule in liquid concentrate- for arthritis, cancer protection and also brain function/ Alzheimer preventative. It is a powerful anti-imflammatory which works in so many ways.
What is the difference between culinary turmeric and the 'medicinal' variety?
If it reacts with certain medications why doesn't food, such as Indian dishes, carry a warning?
My DD's partner has been giving it to his arthritic old dog and it has supposedly been very effective.
I've been taking it daily for about 18months (no black pepper though). I have no idea if the pain I get around my arthritic hip would be worse if I hadn't taken it but it's not wildly expensive and appears to do no harm...
I drink golden milk, for the taste as I have as for any benefits it might have. My version is quite indulgent, but it’s good.
I mix a tsp of turmeric, a tsp of honey and a few white chocolate buttons with hot milk, and strain it through a tea strainer before drinking. It’s warming and tasty.
If it works for you winterwhite then that’s all that matters isn’t it? You can look online and get many different answers so choose the one that suits you best. I trust Michael Mosley to have done his research so his recommendations are what I follow. It’s much easier to take a pill but I am happy to keep mixing mine.
I find turmeric capsules very effective (no more twinges from dodgy hip that was beginning to bother me). Started on it before black pepper came into the picture. Would like up know the basis of the claims that powdered cooking turmeric is better.
I've been taking turmeric with black pepper and ginger for 3.5 years now for arthritis in my thumbs and a couple of fingers. It is keeping it at bay, definitely.
Ordinary food grade turmeric even if organic will not do the trick. Turmeric with black pepper is supposed to reduce inflammation and boost the immune system. I made a golden paste by mixing with organic coconut fat which can be used internally or externally.
You have to be careful with turmeric if you are taking any other meds as they interact.
That is so important. Tessyo It doesn’t really matter. The teaspoon of turmeric can be mixed to the consistency that you prefer. I just do a couple pinches of pepper.
I take a "turmeric and black pepper" supplement. It took about 6-8 weeks before I felt the benefit but it has definitely helped enormously. My arthritic fingers are less painful and I get up from the sofa without an "oof" !
I tried some for a while following an enthusiastic thread here on Gransnet which claimed improvements in several things that affected me. Didn't notice any difference.
I’ve just started taking it again. A teaspoon of powder, ground black pepper and either milk or yogurt. Mix it together and swallow just before breakfast. Michael Mosley says that the mixture is much more effective than pills and I am ready to believe him. The pepper boosts the effect. Turmeric is fat soluble so no fat yogurt is not suitable. Just Google it.
It isn’t the most pleasant concoction but the result IMO is worth it.
I make it into golden paste and add it to smoothies. I am planning to give it to my dog, too, but I made several batches with the wrong cinnamon which I’m happy to take myself but I won’t give it to her. When my last dog had a tumour I was advised to give it to her which is when I first heard of it. It supposedly protects against Alzheimer’s too.
