Thanks for that Highthere, I’ll do a bit of research on that drug. Thanks for your empathy Serendippity, it’s not having control over my body that’s so frightening, even after suffering from 60 years with them.

Let me remember what I used to take (stopped many years ago due to incompatibility with pregnancy and breastfeeding)

Not me but a friend. She’s on the low dose, which I guess is 10mg, and it’s revolutionised her life since she began it. She was having to miss days and days of work, which really wasn’t sustainable, nor care for her three children. This has been a miracle for her.

I seem to be in the minority here as I am prescribed 10mg as a preventative for migraine but don’t feel they benefit me but found that I was ‘out of it’ for at least half of the next day. As I couldn’t cope with that I have been gradually reducing the dose and am now on 5 mg ( cut tablet in half with cutter) every other day. I still feel a bit groggy the next day but not quite as bad. Migraines much the same, might go a month without any and then have a cluster of them for about two weeks.

Ohhh such a worry * Sunnysideup*, i really feel for you.

These attacks completely monopolise your personality dont they. I got yo the point of working out when my next ATTACK would happen and planning my life around it !!!!

Thinking of you.

Thanks so much for answers so far. I was taking 10mg Ami for some years but after a horrendous attack at Christmas which lasted for 9 days with aura three times a day I increased to 20mg. The attack has wiped me out, scared me to death and made me a nervous wreck. Have tried Propanalol and Topirimate in the past neither of which were particularly effective and I couldn’t sleep whilst on them.
Hithere, I’d be very interested in what you are taking.
I’m due to see a private neurologist at the end of the month. By the way, during my attack at Christmas I had a head scan via A&E which was negative, thank god.

Hello Sunnysideup.

I take Amitriptyline 10mg x 2 each evening, it was prescribed for panic attacks and anxiety.

I have MS and each month for the past 15 years i got a solid 3 days of jaw/head/ neck excruciating pain, i cant tell you how i dreaded them, always tied up with my period THEN my periods stopped but this horrendous pain still plagued me every month UNTIL my MS nurse suggested propanolol, 80mg daily, it changed my life, the MS robbed me of a lot BUT the propanolol released me of monthly excruciating pain...

Thats from someone who believed nothing but nothing would rid the crippling pain.

I really hope you get something that helps, i feel your pain.

@Hithere Can I ask which drug you are taking now? I am looking at a migraine preventative and was considering amitriptyline but I'm really not sure about it. Would be good to know which one you find helps you, thank you.

I take 20mg a day for nerve pain and still get occasional migraines but I think my iron levels being low might cause that

I've taken it for years and have found it very helpful. It has reduced the number of attacks and the severity. I take 10mg at the moment but have taken 20mg at times.

I did for years till they moved me to a more up to date preventive treatment

Amytriptiline cut them in half and the new treatment was way more effective

If so, what dose are you on and is it successful? Would be very interested to hear of any experiences please.
