Has anyone had a uterine ablation?

I had one when I was about the same age as you. I had a general anaesthetic and don’t remember feeling any pain, so I reckon it can’t have been very painful or I would remember it. It was a wonderful help to me. I had nothing more than a very scant period afterwards and it changed my life for the better. Good luck with it. I was so glad to have had this procedure.

When I was going through the change and having a terrible time I had the op at the women's. I had a burning sensation in the area but after a few days I was fine. It did ease the symptoms a fair bit and I was more confident going out.

I had one which wasn't completely successful but successful enough to manage my periods better. I think it is worth a go before having a hysterectomy tbh

I had two done in my 40s. My periods were absolutely horrendous and I felt lousy as I was so anaemia. The first one worked for about a year and a half, the second worked a treat and I have never looked back. It was completely liberating and I am now transitioning into menopause (aged 55) with very little bother. The procedure itself was fine, had the first under local anaesthetic, the second under general. Felt a bit achy and groggy, but nothing major. Yes, I had a one when I was 52 years old. I was losing lots of blood and they suggested a one of those. Everything went well.

I hope the ablation works as well as my total abdominal hysterectomy did for me. I immediately felt great! Was back at work part time and able to drive before 6wks. Best wishes.

Yes, I had this at about 45 years old so back in late 90s.
Such a relief ! Had no further periods and to this day I couldn’t tell you if I have been through the menopause. At 67 I presume I have?

If you could arrange help with your mother I would suggest a complete hysterectomy would be much better for you. Your heavy periods would be at an end, you would no longer have the possibility of ovarian, uterine or cervical cancer plus you could take oestrogen only HRT which is wonderful and extremely safe.

I am very apprehensive at the thought of having the procedure but it’s good to know it has gone well for you all.
Esspee I would like a hysterectomy but there are several things which stand in the way, it would be very difficult atm to get care for my mum as it stresses her greatly, I also don’t respond well to general anaesthetic and the gynaecologists want me to try the ablation before they will consider me for a hysterectomy. If it wasn’t such a big op I would have it in a heartbeat. My uterus and I fell out of love a long time ago lol!

I had a uterine ablation at about 40 and it totally changed my life. My periods completely stopped. The recovery time was quite short and I didn’t have much pain.
I’ve recently had a hysterectomy (an unrelated reason). I’m glad I’ve had it, but it was much more painful and had longer recovery period. I think an ablation will be a good decision considering your family situation. Good luck!

I had one years ago Easypeasy. Painless easy procedure and everything has been fine ever since.

Is this similar to a D and C? I had one when I was 40, but ended up with a Hysterectomy a few months later as it didn’t help.

I had one aged about 52 when I was having really, really heavy bleeding every two weeks or so. The procedure completely changed my life and I would recommend it. I can’t remember any pain to speak of, but they will offer painkillers if needed.

Go for it! There is nothing to worry about.

Just caught this thread. I had one at the same age as you. It was life changing. A simple operation and I have not had a period since and this was nearly eight years ago. I don’t remember any pain. There was a little light bleeding for about three weeks after the operation but panty liners were all that was needed and this is to be expected after an operation of this nature.
