Peasblossom

Potassium citrate available at a Chemist was always the first line cure.
It’s been effective for me in the past.

Me too, its usually available in supermarkets now. I always keep some handy in case of cystitis, though thank goodness I’ve not had it for some time now.

don't delay OP.
please ring 111 or go to walk-in. now.
good luck

When I phone my GP practice, the very efficient receptionist asks triage type questions. I phoned to say that I had the beginnings of a UTI, she asked two questions, Urgency? Frequency? which I answered in the affirmative, adding, Burning sensation...
She said come and pick up your prescription.
I know I'm very fortunate with my GP practice.
Hulahoop, I hope you get help today.

Cranberry doesn’t work and can make things worse.
Get some D Mannose, double the dose for 24 hours then take 1 at 4 hour intervals.
I have only 1 fully functioning kidney and a long history of infections.
These will work, get a high dose and nothing with added cranberry!!
????

For those who get UTIs frequently try suggesting to your doctor that you try oestrogen pellets or suppositories to prevent it recurring.
Vaginal atrophy and UTIs are a menopause symptom, one of the many which don’t present themselves for many, many years after the start of the menopause.

NanTheWiser Thu 24-Feb-22 12:36:01

I agree with Sparklefizz, D-mannose is excellent for UTIs, and useful to keep on standby. As mentioned, available from Sweet Cures or Amazon.

Esspee Thu 24-Feb-22 12:31:54

Cranberry juice being effective against UTI is a myth. Drink lots of water and contact your doctor immediately.
I don’t know how old you are but in people my age serious confusion can occur rapidly so please don’t delay.

I get quite frequent UTI’s due to a health condition and my advice is if there are no appointments available ask the receptionist if a GP will write a scrip for broad spectrum antibiotics. They will ask you to take in a water sample to them the same day for testing. Once they have the result they may ring you if they need to change the antibiotics to something more specific to whatever type of infection they find. I have been hospitalised in the past when a UTI has got out of hand -they should never be left untreated.

maddyone Thu 24-Feb-22 12:04:00

If you can’t get an appointment, go to a walk in centre, or phone 111. My husband phoned 111 in the morning because the surgery phone was constantly engaged. The people at 111 made the appointment for me with my own doctor, a telephone appointment, but when I spoke to the doctor, she insisted I went in to see her, and she made the appointment herself on the computer. You must get treatment for your UTI today, don’t wait any longer.

Barmeyoldbat I’m so very sorry to hear about your daughter. I hope she recovers quickly flowers

Barmeyoldbat Thu 24-Feb-22 11:56:30

Please, please contact a Dr. My daughter has ignored hers and is now in intensive care with sepsis. Just get it checked and get the right antibiotics

fairfraise Thu 24-Feb-22 11:15:23

Hope you get it sorted as soon as possible. I had an infection in October which became very serious, so do try to get antibiotics ASAP. Ring or email the surgery until you get some response.

Looks like a urine infection any home cures besides cranberry juice. No apps at Drs ?

... did you tell the surgery that it's probably a urine infection?

Can they not get a doctor - or even nurse practitioner to call you today? They could quite easily prescribe an AB and you could collect a sample bottle from them and return it to confirm the diagnosis.

Surgeries can, and do, prescribe ABs for suspected UTIs, over the 'phone.

@Maddyone is right - the infection can spread quickly to your kidneys and the danger of sepsis is real.

I hope you will try again.

welbeck Thu 24-Feb-22 10:27:26

go to the walk-in centre, that's what it's for.
don't hang about.
there's no virtue in unnecessary suffering.
good luck.

Sparklefizz Thu 24-Feb-22 10:22:43

So sorry to hear this hulahoop. I know how miserable it can be.

D-Mannose works a treat, and I have been using it for years whenever I feel a twinge. It was the only thing that cleared a bad UTI 10 years ago when 3 courses of antibiotics failed.

You can buy it online from Amazon or Sweet Cures.

Hope you soon feel better.

Redhead56 Thu 24-Feb-22 10:22:34

I have blood pressure I get water infection a few times a year I get prescribed Nitrofurantoin. Meds available in shops are not suitable and cranberry juice stopped being effective. They work a treat two days water infection is gone. Hope you get sorted and feel better soon.

maddyone Thu 24-Feb-22 10:20:54

Please get treatment as quickly as possible. I started with an ITU last Saturday, I treated it with Trimethoprim (I always keep a short course of antibiotics in for such occasions, as Fanny says you can buy them online) but despite this the infection progressed to my kidneys. I knew because the UTI didn’t clear and I started to feel ill and got severe backache. Luckily I could get an appointment with my GP and she insisted I went to the surgery to be examined (I was feeling rough so was hoping she’d prescribe over the phone) because she said kidney infections can quickly turn to sepsis. You need to get an antibiotic today because UTIs can quickly spread to the kidneys. Don’t wait any longer.

Yammy Thu 24-Feb-22 10:18:46

When I have had UTIs,s I have never been able to get an appointment but have got a telephone appointment which actually suited me better. See if you can get one and they might prescribe antibiotics for you over the phone. You will also need sample bottles from the GP's or pharmacy. Explain to the GP that you cannot pick up bottles or tablets. If you don't know how to do a midstream sample ask the Dr.
Have you got someone who can go for the bottles and pick up a prescription for you?
Every time you give in and use the loo drink a glass of water, drink as much as you can, which I know is the opposite to what you want to do you need to keep your urine as dilute as possible.
If you feel dizzy or sick you could always phone 111. take the phone into the bathroom with you when you have to go.
You have all my sympathy I really do know the feeling. I hope you can get some help.flowers

hulahoop Thu 24-Feb-22 10:11:51

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 10:00:17

You can legitimately buy special antibiotics for UTIs online now (for women only. I think that there might be an age limit too)

But, yes, contact your GP.
Hope that you feel much better soon

Grandmabatty Thu 24-Feb-22 09:58:08

You really need an antibiotic I fear. Keep trying your GP practice. Maybe even a telephone appointment.
