Nightmares

For the last few weeks I've been having absolutely horrendous nightmares...to the point of waking up terribly distressed.
It's always the same nightmare and there has been previous occasions over the years when it's happened but never with this regularity.

It's not connected to current world events and although I do have an ongoing medical condition, doesn't appear to be related.

Apart from life's usual stress, nothing untoward is occurring in my life and at my recent health check, all was fine.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I’ve been having nightmares, and even sleepwalking, all very obviously connected to the war in Ukraine. I have leapt out of my bed several times (still asleep & disorientated), convinced I’m being attacked by missiles.

I have reacted in this way to stress several times in my life, so I am not surprised world events are affecting me this way. I see that you don’t think your current sleep disturbance is connected to the international situation, but perhaps it may be?

I no longer watch or listen to the news in any detail, and I think this is helping.

Yes, I frequently get the same two nightmares. I am either lost in a big building and cannot find my way to where I need to be or I cannot get home because none of the buses go to where I live. Goodness knows what this says about me, I have no major problems in my life at the moment, and other nights I sleep perfectly well. I do know the nightmares are more likely to occur if I am worried about something, however small.

DH has been having nightmares ever since he started on medication for his heart and blood pressure. Could yours be related to your medication?

Septimia I did ask about medication at my health check and was told it wasn't likely.

I've had the same nightmare since I was in my late teens but rarely...one of the reasons I don't think it's connected to current events.
It's getting to the stage I'm a little anxious about going to sleep.

I have been having terrible nightmares which I have put down to the situation in Ukraine even though I cannot bring myself to watch the main new's on this subject, the phrase 'Mans inhumanity to man' keeps coming into my thoughts,.I never thought this terrible situation would happen in my lifetime and although I am safe in the UK I cannot bear the unjustly and shocking things these fellow human beings and pets have had to ensure through no fault of there own...I feel absolute despair on their behalf.
I just wish some solution could be found and Putin could be detained on mental health grounds.,no normal person could be happy with this on their conscience.

There’s a few helpful guides on YouTube about nightmares and how to try to lessen them.

Thank you Ohmother, I’ll have a look.
