Lung Health Check pilot

This pilot has already been running in the Manchester area and is now getting going in the NE. I don’t know if any other areas are involved. It’s for smokers/ex-smoker aged 55-75. They are hoping to improve outcomes for those with lung cancer.

I was invited to attend in February and by the middle of March was diagnosed with a tumour. I have no symptoms of anything untoward happening. After investigations I have an operable tumour and may need chemo afterwards to mop up any stray cells. There is no evidence of any further spread. I should have the operation within 6 weeks or so.

If any of you are invited to this screening programme take up the offer. I was very lucky it’s been picked up at this early stage. The surgical cancer nurse today said that at this stage cancer can be ‘cured’.

I’m one very lucky person so I just thought it was worth passing the information on for any of you who may be invited.

Great news that they've caught it in time!

I hope the treatment goes well for you. flowers

Ayse, sorry to hear of the initial diagnosis, but so glad that the cancer is curable.
Good luck with your treatment and thanks for passing on the info. I'm sure there are smokers and exsmokers here who will take note.
I have never smoked, but I do have asthma and bronchiectasis, which is probably genetic. Good wishes to all flowers

Thank all of you.

It just points out how important it is to take advantage of any health care pilots. At 69, I recognise the body is getting older and health issues arise. As I don’t take any medications I count myself fortunate. I’m otherwise relatively fit. It could have been so much worse in the future.

I don’t particularly want to make old bones. Our very elderly IMO generally receive a particularly raw deal. My dear deceased MIL suffered through Alzheimer’s for years just degenerating in front of us. She almost died of pneumonia on at least two occasions. TBH, I don’t know who benefitted from her treatment. It certainly wasn’t her or our family.
