Hello! ?
Welcome to ? 2!
A huge thank you and well done to Silverlining
for creating the first thread (which I’ll link to shortly)
It was an amazingly successful thread; which was remarkable considering that most of the time it was invisible!

Travelsafar I was so sorry to read that you have had a fall and hope all will be well with you and your new hip. Best wishes.
travels luckily you have a physio appointment so soon and hopefully she will reassure you. You were fortunate you did not have to get up by yourself. Do you keep a phone close by and unlike myself you do not keep keys in the door?
Oh no travels, hope that you are feeling okay now
Sorry to hear that Travels, hope you feel better tomorrow. Take it easy and do be careful.
I tripped up today going into the house, luckily I landed on the hall carpet so had a soft landing, dread to think if it had been going out I'd have landed on the concrete path. My knees took the brunt of the fall but hip aching this evening I believe because of being jarred. Seeing physio Monday so will get her to check all okay if it still aches. It really shook me up but my dear sister was with me so she helped me get up and sat me down to recover. Note to ones self 'be more careful where steps are!!'
As I’ve said before, it’s been reported numerous times.
I linked to the threads that I and others have started on this thread.

It’s been happening for at least 18 months
IS there some way to report this as it happens constantly, which means unless one already knows it’s there, new posters won’t and it is very useful to those seeking help advice and support.
Even when I bumped it up we were barely on the page.
Just checked and we are once more, not in the Active listings, don’t understand why this keeps happening.
I thought I would bump this up in case somebody is not au fait with our lengthy discussions and wants some advice.
Well done ipadgrandma you have had a rough journey prior to the op so muscles and stamina will take a while to rebuild. Once you get used to the stick it is easier to manage I think.
i was given sticks after my operation but already had crutches, but to my surprise found sticks easier to manage and less cumbersome to use.
Sounds like your physio visited you at home, that’s nice. You will be fine iPadGrandma, and yes 6 weeks is a milestone. Well done.
Just do some walking, and as days pass increase the distance and don’t forget stairs.
that should be let's face it.
When you first receive your walking stick, I would use it indoors until you are really comfortable with it and the 1st time you venture out with a stick I personally would only go a short distance until you feel really comfortable using it.
You are doing really well and lt's face it, you are not catching a bus.
I had my final visit from my NHS Physio yesterday, that must be about four visits in all. She stays about an hour while I go through my exercises, and of course we have a chat.
She is very pleased with my progress and is going to bring me a walking stick in the next few days so I can progress to the stage of walking with one stick, rather than a crutch. I can walk indoors without any aids, not quite normally yet, but wouldn’t want to try it outside quite yet,
Physio said she didn’t really think I needed to arrange any more physio, just to keep moving and walking about.
Thank you SusieB50 for suggesting using the stairs for exercise. For the last eighteen months (since I contracted Septic Arthritis in April 2021) I have only gone up and down once a day because of the pain. So once I was downstairs for the day, nothing got much got done upstairs. Believe me, now I have no excuse but to sort out the clutter, as best I can without bending or twisting!
My new hip is six weeks old today and I feel that is a milestone.
I hope everyone is feeling reasonably comfortable today, and thank you for all your suggestions and support.
I second the walking and up and down stairs. Our stairs became my private gym especially in bad weather. Luckily we're in a fourth floor flat.
Hi ipadGrandma I used a private physio for a while after I felt that the hospital physio wasn’t really helping much and it was a 40 minute round trip for a max 20 minute appointment. He did help a bit giving me more confidence. I didn’t sleep on my side for at least 8 weeks and then it was on my operation side with a pillow between my knees . Think you need to get the OK from a physio or your consultant.
Have you got stairs ? Try going up and down the stairs more during the day . That will help strengthen the thigh and buttock muscles ! If not persevere with the walking . I found twice a day for shorter times was better than trying to exercise all in one go.
Even if you have 10 questions it is appreciated because if you give him/her the list they can whiz through it, obviously knowing where the end is.
Do not forget to ask when you can drive again if you do drive because you need or at least I did, medical approval before my insurance company would accept me as a driver again.
Good luck iPadGrandma. The worst is over, you have had your surgery, and you can only get better now.
Oops, that should have read next Monday, 26th September for follow up appointment.
Thank you Charleygirl15 I will write down my questions. Thank you.
iPadGrandma may I suggest you write the questions down because if you do not you are bound to forget something if you have a memory like mine!
Thank you for your sound advice. I have my six week follow up appointment on the 26th October and will be able to ask a few questions then.
Hi Hipsters.. Like IpadGrandma I'm 6 weeks on Wednesday. Glad your getting there IpadGrandma after all your problems.
I was told not to give up my crutches until I was seen by Consultant at 6 weeks as my replacement was via the muscles he wanted them to heal well.
So on paper, no excersis however my instinct ofter get the better of me I find I have left the crutches in the kitchen and I'm in the lounge or else where, with DH saying have you forgotten something?
I had my appt to see Consultant cancelled so I'll see him at 7 weeks, he will tell me his future plan on my rehab.
I have no physio appt in the pipeline yet, but I'll probably get a private one, as I did last time.
I have been sleeping on my side for about 10 days now. I was sent home with a book from my Trust saying its OK with a pillow between your legs after 2 weeks, hands up, it spends more time on the floor.
IpadGrandma, you do what you think is best for you, as others have said we are all different, my only issue is still my swollen thigh, problems getting on my jeans.
I'm had my knee replacement in December, so that's still not quite healed as it still giving off some heat.
Plus 3 weeks prior my Hip I ended up with a Pacemaker, due to all these artificial devices I now have in situ I feel great.
I just have to behave myself, not forgetting I will have to go easy for few more months, we all get there in the end, it's not a race.
Hello Hipsters! ? Long time, no see! I hope that everyone is doing well.
I’ll catch up with the thread and get back to you soon.
I’m going on holiday tomorrow! (It’s actually rather funny) We haven’t been anywhere since 2019.
Love and best wishes to you all x
iPadGrandma I personally would not sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs until the physio or a medic had given me the go-ahead. You have been to hell and back already, what is another couple of weeks or whatever?
Not every hip is the same, I personally would go cautiously.
