That's a shame. I thought private patients were only seen in private hospitals though? Maybe it's to do with staffing rotas and scheduling generally as all will be out of kilter due to the unexpected public holiday. Sorry to hear you're suffering though.

?♀️Hip Replacement #2 ?♀️ (Knees Welcome!) ?♀️
(1000 Posts)Hello! ?
Welcome to ? 2!
A huge thank you and well done to Silverlining
for creating the first thread (which I’ll link to shortly)
It was an amazingly successful thread; which was remarkable considering that most of the time it was invisible!
Update everyone, at the end of July my consultant booked me in to have my left hip replacement on September 19th ( 7 weeks hence) . Both hips are much worse than 8 weeks ago ( I had my right replaced in March) As I am favouring my right too much.
So, now it’s been delayed until 24th October because of the queens funeral.
I understand that it’s a bank holiday but not the huge delay, I feel like I have just gone to the back of the queue and don’t understand why everyone wasn’t just put back a week.
I can only assume that there are quite a few scheduled into the hospital who are paying privately ( mine is on the NHS) and they didn’t want to move them.
Just feeling pretty low at the moment at the thought of another 6 weeks of such discomfort.
No. Charleygirl not on the list as it's been fine until yesterday!
Aveline I am sure a couple more days rest and the unoperated hip will no longer be complaining so loudly. Are you on the list to have that operated?
I was amazed to see the crowds every step of the way from Balmoral to Edinburgh. My heart goes out, especially to Charles and Anne, because they have not had 5 minutes to grieve privately, everything has been in the glare of the public eye.
I went to see the cortege pass. It was running late as it drove so slowly as so many had turned out to see the Queen on her last journey from Scotland. I had a long stand. My unoperated hip was sore and throbbed all evening. I hope that's not the start of problems with it. Worth it though. It was very moving. Crowds of people in our quiet neighbourhood making their way to the main road and trying to find a spot.
Thanks, I do know it’s not a good idea Charleygirl and won’t risk it.
silverlining it is admirable you want to be there but I personally feel you will be standing for far too long. The problem is that if you did need a seat fairly urgently, I have no idea where you could go. It would be better to stay in the comfort of your own home.
I think I heard that the Queen will be flown back to London after laying in state in Edinburgh. If they had used a train it would allow more people to pay their respects along the route. As it is London will be at a standstill.
I've got the timings for when the cortege will pass near us on their way south and I plan to go and be there.
I am 5 months post op but standing for long Periods of time would still be difficult. Shuffling in queues also. I would like to go and don’t live far from London but think the crowds would be too much.
Alternatively, is there anywhere you could stand quietly while the royal train carrying her body passes. I'd like to just do that as a mark of respect but am not sure quite where I should go.

Would you risk going to London for queen's funeral after hip replacement bearing in mind, crowds, walking and standing. I'd love to go but is it too risky 3 months after op.
I probably would, but if you have any doubts don't.
I'm just over 4 weeks I can't risk it, but 3 months I would do it, especially if my recovery had gone well and I was going with someone.
It's going to be a respectful day so I'm sure you will surprised how easy it probably will be.
I agree lying in state might be more suitable, but there will be long ques as well.
Lying in state!!
Do you have to go to London for the funeral? Could you try going to one of the lying on states? Probably long queues but maybe better managed than a crowd? Also the TV coverage will be excellent and we'll see much more than just vehicles passing. Just my thoughts. Will check out the online book of condolence too but hardly know what to say (because there's so much)

Wrong thread
I'm being driven mad with genital itching. Anyone know how to get relief? Tried canesten, vagisil, baby lotion etc. No difference. Please help.
silverlining : the eye appointment went OK but no result as to why I’m no longer able to tolerate a contact lens , but at least no serious problem . The doc has advised that I should have cataract surgery even though it’s not too significant. It would then solve the problem as I would have a lens replacement and no longer need a contact lens . Just now need to persuade my GP to refer to Moorfields or fork out for private surgery as I don’t want to go to our local district hospital . I had a bad experience with my eyes there.
I wonder why you have hip pain ? I do sometimes still get a twinge . I found the numerous stairs and escalators quite an effort today but it was the lack of stamina and the crowds , no pain . A third friend has been put on the list for a hip replacement- we are all crumbling !
Silverlining: Here’s a question, has anyone been left post op with one longer leg?
Yes, I did with my second one. It was only slightly longer but I could notice it especially at the beginning. Don't even notice it now so don't worry.
How did your eye appointment go Susie. Hope you got some reassurance, .
My hip suddenly started hurting tonight, sharp stabbing pains, feels very sore now. I havnt walked much or done anything strenuous so dont know what it can be. Have put my pjs on, ready for an early Night. It will be better tomorrow.
I did a fair bit of gardening yesterday kneeling on a kneeler with support arm things to help me up. Bit stiff today but hip fine but it is nearly 5 months since op, so travelasfar take it easy. I have no confidence in getting in and out of the bath ! I have an appointment tomorrow ( private!!) about my eye, I have been unable to wear my contact lens in my right eye , left one has had a cataract op so good vision . But so short sighted in my right I am getting distorted vision which is making me very anxious about walking around outside . I can’t wait till mid November for my offered NHS appointment so biting the bullet .
Not just awkward but not really possible so I need to buckle down and do some exercises as well as walking.
Would agree with walking, though am finding now 4.5 months post op that sitting down on the floor/ getting in the bath etc awkward as I really havnt done the exercises my nice physio has given me.
A resounding yes to walking rather than boring repetitions. All sorts of walking including up and down stairs.
GrannyLaine* Thank you for your good wishes, I think I am just being impatient with myself! I had another useful visit from the Community Rehab Physiotherapist on Saturday, and she reassured me that I was making good progress, as do my family
We went out in the car for a change of scenery and I was able to get into the front passenger seat, with new right hip leading the way, pain free. The plastic bag tip from SilverLining certainly works for me, so thank you for that suggestion.
Visgirl I am so sorry for your difficult situation, it must be so awful for you. We are hip replacement twins from August 10! (We have twin daughters). I send you my very best wishes that all goes well for you this time.
Am I unusual in finding the exercises time consuming and boring. Do others favour walking over exercises as more natural and more useful?
